I heard that the Splash logs are single seats instead of double. Is that true, and if so what about young children? Would my son be able to sit with me? Are there bars in front or just sides. I'm not about to let him ride alone.Any info would be great!!!

You can still ride with him. You can request, I think, to sit in the seat behind him to keep your hands on him. Unfortunately, you cannot sit in the same seat with him to keep a better grip with the current layout.

The rows are single file seating and you are not allowed to sit two people in the same seat (your son with you in your lap). However, there are metal rails along the sides of the log as well as grooves in the seat in front of you for him to hang onto. My suggestion would be to have your son sit in front of you, wearing a backpack backwards. Then, you can hold onto the backpack straps and make a make-shift harness to keep him against his seat.

NOTE TO READERS: YellowMan has been known to joke around from time to time. Please don't take some posts by him to their full, literal meaning. Doing so will most likely end in one of the following: making a fool of YellowMan, making a fool of yourself, making a fool of Ronald Reagan, drymouth, or in rare cases, death. Thank you and enjoy your stay.

A disclaimer for this attraction is that "Children under age 8 must be accompanied by a responsible person".
The attraction's height requirement is 40" (102 cm) or taller"Ok Screamers, Let's Get Ready to Roll!"

My son is 4 years old and over 40" but I just don't know if it would be a good idea to put him on. I, of course, would be right there but that drop scares me as it is
Thanks for the info, I think we will skip it.
Why did they change ? Are they safer now?

Splash is one of my four year old's favorite rides. There is no reason to skip it for safety concerns. As with roller coasters, the physics involved make it much harder to fall out than it seems while riding.
If your concern isn't safety, but rather if your child would be too scared, try something like Pirates first to see how he likes the drops.
It was very easy for me to lean forward and put my arms around my son for the big drop to make him feel secure; you are only separated by a small seat back. I wouldn't dismiss the ride before I get there if I were you, but the fact that you are even thinking about these types of things puts you head and shoulders above the majority of parents I see at parks.

I thought the Splash "safety" seating was instituded after the dummy in Fla jumped out of his log a while back....
Cant imagine it was the Flash Mt thing, that's nothing new, maybe the back rests may make it a little harder to do a reach around

There have been a few instnaces of people disembarking from this specific attraction while it is in motion. The result is usually death, and a lawsuit is usually created against Disney.
Most accidents in the park are caused by Guest Error, yet Disney has to pay the price most of the time."Ok Screamers, Let's Get Ready to Roll!"
