    Future of Disneyland Resort?

    I was on another message board,and "bean" a poster I find very reliable,made the following post.I found it to be pretty interesting as to what he was saying about the 3rd gate,tomorrowland etc.Here is the post below,what do you guys think? do you agree that tomorrowland can wait before getting more additions? do you think a 3rd gate will help the resort? etc?

    Yeah and isn't t interesting that as of now the parcel is 75 acres not including some of the motels that are closing and being condemned on the parcels borders.

    Also strangely enough for a while anaheim has been wanting to relocate the low income housing east of the property.

    Notice how even the article states that disney has been pushing hard to make sure that no more housing is built in the empty parcels surrounding the resort.

    Oh people there are biger plans than many could speculate and don't worry about DCA "getting fixed"
    DCA has surpassed its 7 million mark and with its expansion plans ould very well meet the same attendance levels that the second third and fourth gate at WDW get.

    Tomorrowland is in need of some work but in no way does it need to be done immediately. The park is there to stay and will continue to evolve. Disneland is also reaching its maximum growth potential. Why does it need to happen immediately. Nemo should be enough for a couple years while DCA gets its second phase and improvements added even then the park need not be completely filled up to capacity with its attraction count.

    That is what a third gate would be for. Then all three gates could evolve with more additions in the future with the exception of disneyland which would most likely get updates in aging attractions that loose appeal or new enetrtainment

    In my opinion,I think bean hit the nail on the head with Tomorrowland and the future additions for DL.There should be no rush to 'fix' tomorrowland.As for right now the land receieved a much needed new color scheme,and its getting a new E ticket,not to mention Jedi Training Acad. etc.I think Tomorrowland is fine for a while.Plus what would a 'better' TL do for DL? DL already reaches its capacity most of the year,you can only cram so many people into DL,obviously new growth is going to have to be elsewhere (DCA,third park etc) if the resort wants to up its attendence numbers.

    I don't think a third gate will help the resort in the short term. Just my oppinion, but I don't see DCA standing on it's own without forced overflow from DL. However; looking at the long term outlook for the resort, it's time to start getting some preliminary work done. By 2012 DCA should be holding it's own (barring any major changes for the worst in the current plans *rumored*) By then they should be ready for a third gate. If they have some infrastructure (power, water, sewer ect.) in place, The third gate park and hotel expansion should go a lot quicker. I say get on it.
    As for the state of TL, I'd alomst agree. Get something on the PM tracks to provide movement, update some attractions (the usual stuff), and they're ready for a break.
    I prefer Walt's "Hard Facts" over P.C.

    If a new park is built theres something to new to complain and nit pick about so but in all seriousness a new park in my opinion is needed yet. the attendance has just lately been picking up for both DL and DCA and I think just letting DCA grow up a little and develop it's own base would be great before building a new park.

    I think TL is already 80-90% "fixed" already (once Nemo opens). The People Mover should be addressed, and hopefully it will in the next few years. There again is a ride that already has a track and a loading platform, they just need something to put ON those tracks. That won't be a "new" attraction, just a refurb. As for a 3rd gate, let's focus on DCA first, before taking on another park. Make what you have the best it can be, before spreading your money too thin. I say sink the money into DCA and hotel improvements before taking on any more parks.

    Well theres also the whole theme at the entrance of tomarrowland that nobody likes. With the Astro Orbitor and the rocks.

    It is very possible that Tomorrowland will go through a major facelift sometime later this decade. It is a current discussion that is taking place now as a potential next project that could be on the plate for DL after Nemo. WDI still feels that major physical changes still need to be made to DLR's Tomorrowland.

    I totally agree with WDI feelings. Tomorrowland is still full of dead space and isn't completely cohesive in it's theming.

    Good news on Tommorowland Marcie! It's getting better, but still not near its glory years of the 1960's, 70's and 80's.

    Here's a possible timeline for Tomorrowland;

    2007 - Nemo and Microsoft Innoventions (as rumored by Miceage several months ago)
    2009 - New PeopleMover and Rocket Jets back where they belong
    2010 - New Star Tours, with the land redressed and themed to zippy and fresh futurism instead of brown and depressing retro-futurism
    2011 - Electric Autopia, Presented by Honda
    2012 - An actually entertaining show experience in the Carousel Theater

    Meanwhile at DCA;

    2008 - Midway Mania and Phase One of Paradise Pier Victorian Placemaking
    2009 - Wonderful World of Color and Phase Two of Paradise Pier Victorian Placemaking
    2010 - Cars E Ticket Attraction and Grizzly Peak 1920's Placemaking with new D Tickets
    2011 - Entry Area 1930's Placemaking and additional D Tickets throughout Park
    2012 - New E Ticket, plus a couple C/D Tickets in surrounding new area

    I really don't see a third park beginning construction until 2015 at the earliest. And it wouldn't surprise me if a third park didn't begin until late in the next decade for a grand opening sometime around 2020-2023 timeframe. But Tomorrowland and DCA hold great potential, as they are clearly the two weakest parts of the current Resort.

    The important part in talking about the third park is to realize this isn't central Florida. Disneyland Resort will always have a dramatically different demographic to work with than WDW. The first thing they need to do before even holding the first meeting on the third park is to get DCA to a place where locals would actually consider buying a full-fare ticket to visit DCA for the day, just as they do with Disneyland. Use that timeline above and that ticketing scenario could be achievable around 2011 or 2012.

    In the meantime, I hope this new global corporate structure doesn't try to shoehorn Florida expectations on a California operation. That would be about as succesful as a group of Florida swamp businessmen opening a Wal-Mart at Fashion Island.... Wrong business in the wrong place.
