I'm excited to ride the "new" IASW...corny or not, the ride has a soft spot in my heart, due to the many memories of childhood, fun and family.

Mine too, Cinder. It was the 2nd attraction I went on when I was 5 years old after having the wits scared out of me on Pirates. It's a very sentimental ride for me.

That's also why I'm very happy about the changes. It's nice to see the old girl get a nip and a tuck. Keep her looking beautiful!

Honestly, I feel that IASW is the flag ride of the whole park. I mean, that was the one ride we absolutely HAD to ride. That and seeing the Matterhorn appear as we're driving down the freeway, those are the two things that "make" Disney for me.

I agree. I would rather see Small World torn down with another ride built in its place than to see it degraded in such a way.

It's a great line. The problem is that if I said something disparaging like that about people who supported the character additions, I would be given a "warning".

I didn't say he or she didn't love Disney as much as me.

My point was, the tired old "Disneyland is just a business, get over it" line gets trotted out every now and then. And while it may be true today, it certainly wasn't true of the company's founder. I don't know what was in Walt Disney's heart. Maybe he was lying about not being in it only for the money, but the fact is that's what he said. Disney was originally not just a business in it only to make money. I'm not sure it ever had to stray from that ideal.

Degraded how, exactly. Adding characters in it? Again, how is that degrading? I find that post to be very childish.

It has been explained time and time again. Here are some good starting points.

Though I would say the burden is on Disney to actually explain what the characters actually add to the attraction and how Small World is irrelevant today (the turnstiles certainly won't tell you that).

This is yet another cheap addition designed to attract annual passholders who now pay for their passes in installment plans for crying out loud. They are fixing what isn't broken while allowing Tomorrowland and other areas of the park to sit around on life support. Why not build Discovery Bay after all these years? No, that takes too much time and money. Why bother?

I find that post to be very childish.
Why? If Disneyland is meant to innovate and change, why not really change and innovate it. Dumping characters into Small World takes zero imagination. Why not tear the whole thing down and use new technology to create a modern heir to the Small World throne? Rattling around in some young Imagineer's brain is the next Small World or Pirates of the Caribbean. Why not let them create instead of dumping yet another brand into the park?
