This is a joke, correct? Because taking a lot of rides he put in on opening day sounds like change to me.

but what proof is there that it still will not be very popular after the refurbishment?

The numbers on the attraction skyrocketted after the new Christmas overlay was added even though some people also thought it was a mistake to alter the original attraction.

The many versions of small world in different resorts are also very popular and non are identical. They have all been altered and recreated in a different vision.

I just do not understand the reasoning on why a couple of dolls will all of a sudden make the attraction less popular. If anything it will just be a handful of people on these boards that will miss out on the attraction because of it

As a matter of fact the numbers on the attraction skyrocketted after the new Christmas overlay was added even though some people also thought it was a mistake to alter the original attraction.

The many versions of small world in different resorts are also very popular and non are identical. They have all been altered and recreated in a different vision.
But the most notable argument against that whole train of thought is the current popularity of small world at MK - refurbished to be restored to the original format.

And I'm saying from what I've heard about it, I think it'll be bad.

We have more in common than you might think.

Not what they've heard from a certain website owner that has delusions of superiority or seen pictures of what they do somewhere else.
I've not only read opinions about the changes from a certain web site, but I've also read opinions from those who support the changes. Have you, on the other hand, read what Re-Imagineering has to say? I would be surprised if you did.

That can't take the place of experiencing it firsthand. What it DOES do, though, is set the person up to hate it from the very beginning. If someone go into IASW, totally expecting.... no, not expecting, WANTING it to suck, that's what they're going to get. Does anyone who's read Spokker's posts on IASW expect, at all, that he'll come out of that attraction with a glowing new appreciation for the additions made to it? And why not? Because he's already made up his mind, without even experiencing it, that it's going to be awful.
You know what, I actually agree with you here. I admit that I may not give the attraction a fair shake. But on the other hand, you go into the experience thinking you'll enjoy the changes, and not give the attraction the fair analysis it deserves.

You've persuaded me, though. I understand that you are in Arizona, but if you happen to be going to the park on Friday, I will betray what I said earlier and invite you to ride the attraction with me if we both promise to go into it with an open mind. Afterwards we can discuss the attraction and other aspects of Disneyland in a respectful and civilized manner.

If you can't make it, I extend this offer to anyone on this or other boards. I hold no grudges against anybody and would happy to meet anybody here and discuss Small World in person on Friday.

If this sounds interesting to you feel free to PM me and I'll give you my cell phone number and we can arrange something for Friday. Think of it as me extending an olive branch, so to speak. If you think I'm full of it and want to tell me off, that's fine too

Westsider over at the laughingplace boards has supposedly ridden the ride and given a review. Spoilers at the link below:

    http://mb.laughingplace.com/MsgBoard-T-103565-P-1.asp

His Verdict...ride looks great, characters fit in great for the most part and some are very easy to miss, America scene is not bad, "think it's a positive change and has freshened up the ride very nicely"

Yes, good point. Money has value in this world. Thank you for making that stance.

My point (which wasn't addressed) was that it is quite possible the builders of the park were willing to sacrifice the original theme/goal of the attraction because the sponsor had its own agenda.

That's a complete re-working of the entire show. Not the same as IASW.
