Disney should definitely bring this back by restoring the exsisting footage and redoing the theater the way it was originally with fiber optic stars surrounding you and lasers shooting at the screen. Maybe they could clean up stop motion fx with digital and add some in theater effects like wind blasts or slight motion to accompany explosions and magical music blasts, etc. They could even display a new making of documentary in the preshow like they used to except now it could be more of a tribute as well. I'm not a huge Michael Jackson fan but I know this would mean a lot to his many fans saddened by his death.
I liked HISTA when it came out but this was way better. I remember how its music gave Tomorrowland a hip, optimistic sound. When you left the theater and heard it playing as you entered the land again it kind of put a hop in your step and gave Tomorrowland some energy that is sorely missed. It shouldn't cost much more than an overlay to an attraction and it could remain in place until Disney finally decides to do something with Tomorrowland.
Btw, I love that the song is called "We are here to change the world" because thats the kind of message that an optimistic future should have.

There's the question of whether Disney could do anything with Michael Jackson-related materials in their possession without at least input, if not outright permission, from his estate.

As fun as it may have been, it's simply wouldn't be wise to bring it back as a permanent attraction. It just screams "dated", regardless of how good it may be.
And as easy as it could be to swap out the films, I think it has as much chance of coming back as "America the Beautiful" had of playing in the old CircleVision theater after 9/11."I like maxims that don't encourage behavior modification."

However, it is worth noting that whatever nostalgic value Captain EO has is far better than the complete lack of entertainment OR nostalgia provided by the abysmal Honey I Shrunk the Audiences. As fun as it may have been, it's simply wouldn't be wise to bring it back as a permanent attraction. It just screams "dated", regardless of how good it may be.
That said, if they didn't bring it back for the 50th, I doubt it's ever coming back.

Very true. HISTA has not aged gracefully. I have never understood why it got such rave reviews in Birnbaum's. It was already a bit dated at EPCOT by the time it was rolled out at DL in 1998.
The only 3D movie I'm convinced can never grow old is at MuppetVision 3D at DHS, where it still gets long lines and people love it. Of course, they aren't able to go on it all the time like at DCA so people won't "tire" of it at DHS as they do at DCA.
Philharmagic is also AWESOME but will eventually grow dated as this form of animation continues to improve. And it certainly doesn't belong in the MET.
Attractions which rely heavily on pop stars don't hold up very well. Captain EO, HISTA, Universe of Energy 2.0, "The Making of Me", Sounds Dangerous, Super Star Limo, etc."I like maxims that don't encourage behavior modification."
