I keep hearing a lot on this board and others about Light Magic and the big problems with the APs over. What exactly happened? What was the parade like? I'd like to hear some real info on it. Thanks!

Re: Light Magic
It wasn't officially a parade. They called a "streetacular". Brief show synopsis: 4 large floats that were identical in construction/looks. The floats stopped in 2 locations: Small World Mall and Main Street. They performed a show that lasted a little over 15 minutes. The idea of the show was supposed to tell you what happened at Disneyland when everyone left and all the characters were a sleep. They had all these people dress as pixies and the characters woke up and they all danced around, blah, blah, blah.
What happened with the APs? Well, they decided to have an AP preview of Light Magic, and the whole thing just wasn't ready. The Resort billed it as the 1st official showing when they were selling it to get the APs to come. When the APs got there, the Resort announced that it was really just one of the final dress rehearsals.... and it all went down hill from there. Keep in mind, that all of the APs had paid an extra admission to attend this special event. Basically, anything that could go wrong technically during the show did. And so the APs lined up at City Hall and the complaints began. Imagine a line out the doors of City Hall, around Town Square and all the up Main Street towards the Castle.
Hands down, the worst AP event in Disneyland history."You sure have made a fool of yourself this time." Brer Fox

Re: Light Magic
Is it true that the flying Tink crashed on the ground and caught fire and CMs had to stomp on it to put out the flames?

Light Magic was NOT great, but it had it's "moments". All the buildings in MainStreet were embedded with fiber optics, and they shimmered to the music. The fiber optics on the stages were beautiful. Seeing all the characters in thier themed PJs was a cute touch. I think the major probs with it was that it rolled in, and STOPPED. The characters just danced around, and basically you were staring at the same thing for 15-20 minutes. That, and the pixie masks were really creepy! Ive always said that some sort of Light Magic/Electrical parade hybrid would be great, but keep it a PARADE, not a show.

Re: Light Magic
I thought the show has a good idea... then I saw it. It wasn't bad at all, it just wasn't good. It was fun, but so is eating ice cream.
The show was 'ok' and a good way to lower the stand-by times. I just think it would have been a better idea to leave MSEP and put the $20,000,000 it took to make Light Magic into a cool ride. Light Magic was the last big thing to happen at Disneyland. I just hope that the 50th Anniversary will make up for the last 5 years of slow time.Fabio (MagicWDI) | Cinderella is my favorite!

I would imagine all those fiber optics are still in the Main Street buildings, I'd love to see those used again...50th, maybe???

Re: Light Magic
The best information dealing with Light Magic is a series written by Jim Hill...

GO to the menu, click on archive, and go down the list until you find...
Remembering Light Magic: Version 2.0
Alas, Jim has STILL not finished the series, but the first 8 chapters are very interesting....

Re: Light Magic
I have no idea what you are talking about. I don't recall a flying Tinker Bell in the show.

Re: Light Magic
He was joking. ALTHOUGH...a flying mechanical Tinkerbell was toyed with as part of the show. I believe this idea was abandoned due to the fear that a free-flying Ms. Bell might loose control, and fly into unsuspecting guests...not good
