The Disneyland Resort's President, Cynthia Harriss, did mention the 50th Anniversary in her birthday speech yesterday. Here's what she said:
--MarkAnd while today is the day that we’re celebrating the 48th birthday, and we’re all going to have a great time today, we’re getting ready for what you know is a big day for the big 50 just right around the corner. And as you can imagine this golden anniversary will be nothing like the world has ever seen before because in true Disney fashion we will celebrate this in an extraordinary manner. But actually, you’re going to have to stay tuned for more on that because that will be another day. Because right now we are having a wonderful, huge year right hear at the Disneyland Resort.

C'mon Hippie, let's try to think positive! Let's all play the Glad Game*
*"The Glad Game" was a game palyed by Polyanna in the Walt Disney Pictures movie of the same name. It was a way Polyanna tried to look on the bright side of any bad situation.

That being said, it cracks me up that for almost two years now she has been making the exact same type of statements about the 50th without ever saying anything. She has yet to say one definitive thing about the 50th, yet insists on using all this hyperbole whenever mentioning the date. It's just setting up people to be more ticked off than they are already if they don't deliver.

I guess I'll have to take her word for it. I just hope she really means what she said about the anniversary being like nothing the world has ever seen before. Well, back to the waiting....

Re: Ms. Harriss Mentioned 50th Yesterday...
I just found an opportunity to use the term "Glad Game" by responding to your post Hippie, thought you'd get a kick out of it, that's all. We love to use that term.
I agree, I have no specific hopes for the 50th. I'm sure they'll do SOMETHING, at least to the level that they did on WDW's 25th,which wasn't mind-blowing, but it was done well. I don't expect the world to stop, the park transformed, and all will be well in the universe. The 50th, after all is a TEMPORARY celebration, it will come, and it will go. WDW has had several "celebrations" throughout the years, and they're fun, but they're not why we go there. We go for WDW itself. I think people are putting way too much emphasis on the 50th, I'm more interrested in things that will be around for a while.

Re: Ms. Harriss Mentioned 50th Yesterday...
ever think that maybe they are tyring to keep it a surprise? why does everything they do have to be announced years in advance? she said the 50th will be huge and nothing like Disney has ever done, those are mighty big words to live by,im sure she'll come through, why dont we give her and the company a chance before we crucify them?

Re: Ms. Harriss Mentioned 50th Yesterday...
^ I agree with the last two posts. Those are mighty big words to live by and I don't think Disney (Jay) will be letting Cynthia say things like that if nothing was planned or if the 50th wasn't going to be all that great. And even if it's not all that grand, I will still love having the new Space Mountain, the fireworks and night-time/day-time parade. Plus, the possibility of Buzz Lightyear. I can't wait.
