Last night I did something I normally don't do, I sat on the right side while using the Monorail from Downtown Disney to Disneyland Park. I understand that some of you think I am a freak here for admitting this as a drastic change, but it really is. I won't go into details why, so let me get onto my point...
So as I was riding the monorail at night, I noticed that the guidance lights on the Rocket Rods/PeopleMover track were still on. These of course would only be visible to Monorail guests, but serve no real purpose. One might say its "Good Show," but I'd disagree since it is only going to ask inquiries about the failed ride. Then I was thinking it was for safety reasons, but I doubt those little lights (reminding my of the guide lights along the floor in theatres) are the only safety devices for mechanics/workers at night (it should be more than theatres because you're working with machinery and such).
They seem just to be wasting power...
Anyone else have a theory?

Rocket Rods Still On???

I seriously doubt the rods will return. My only hope/wish is that they are planning some sort of new attraction for the track. I'm part of the "Bring Back The People Mover" campaign. Not the old PM, but a "PM2.0" if you will, that could maybe use the old RR track. Personally, I think they should've called RR "People Mover 2.0" then guests wouldn't be expecting a "thrill' ride, which RR wasn't. It was fun, but not a thrill ride. Am I rambling? I have a St. Olaf story about this....

Re: Rocket Rods Still On???
A peoplemover 2.0 sounds like a super idea, and an easy way to add a ride back to Tomorrowland. Why did the PeopleMover get replaced in the first place? It seems that the track goes to a lot more places than the one in WDW.

Re: Rocket Rods Still On???
I think they wanted to add another "thrill" attraction to Tomorrowland, and RR was supposed to be it. I really liked RR, but it wasn't a thrill, or worth a huge wait (single rider was the way to go) The People Mover track at DL DOES go all over the Autopia area, almost as far back as Small World. I'd LOVE to see something like WDW's "TTA", little bit faster moving, a naration, maybe some effects or scenes in the tunnels.

Re: Rocket Rods Still On???
Rocket Rods: Gone. Dead. Hoisted down.
Hauled away. Service bay coverted to classrooms.
Those lights have been on every night for as long
as I can remember. They come on at the same
time as the Auto track lights every night, so they
just never got disconnected.
There are several former attractions wasting energy
these days. It's still about 70 degrees in the
abandoned Circlevision and not a single person
spends any time in it. That's a lot of A/C expense
to no benefit for anyone."Don't let the tombstone hit you on the way out!" -- Oogie Boogie

Re: Rocket Rods Still On???
Not to start any rumors or anything, but I heard some noise coming from the RR building on the 48th, does anybody know what that noise was?

Zero: Thanks for the update. I knew they weren't coming back, but was just wondering why the lights weren't turned off, ya know?

Re: Rocket Rods Still On???
Probably a surprise re-opening of the Rocket Rods being rushed to be completed by the 49th anniversary!

NOTE TO READERS: YellowMan has been known to joke around from time to time. Please don't take some posts by him to their full, literal meaning. Doing so will most likely end in one of the following: making a fool of YellowMan, making a fool of yourself, making a fool of Ronald Reagan, drymouth, or in rare cases, death. I hate to admit this as a huge DL fan, but I've never been on the pplmover before it was removed. I've heard great things about it but have no clue as to what it IS. Could someone give me a descrition of what the ride was?
LOL, one day at DL when RR had been built, my mom (who had no knowledge of RR) said "Where's the ppl mover?" and I (about 12 at the time) pointed to the monorail station. hehe I wish I could've rode the pplmover before it was taken away.
