Now we finally get an article that actually deals with a real problem. I personally hate the pesky birds at the park and think they are a nuisance. They are messy and very aggressive. I wish they could be gotten rid of. I never knew DL was a bird sanctuary. Is this true?

Re: MiceAge 7/22: For the Birds
I don't think it is. Originally, it was an orange and walnut grove. Before that, it was a vineyard, and before that, it was sandy scrub. Very few of the trees are native, none of the birds are endangered, and I haven't heard of too many bird sanctuaries that turn their ponds into a sea of fire a couple times every night.
So, I don't think so. The reason they have a bird problem is probably because people feed the birds, so they stick around. Even if they don't feed them, there is a lot of dropped popcorn around.
Honestly, do you really think there needs to be a sanctuary for pigeons, sparrows and crows? You may contact me via jonvn@nadelberg.com.

Re: MiceAge 7/22: For the Birds
I haven't read the article, but I think the big problem is the crows. We have crow problems where I live in Texas, and they drive out native species and create all kinds of issues.
The birds that I think primarily feed on the popcorn are the little ones, which I don't believe are too much of a problem. But something is clearly attracting the crows as well. Air horns can sometimes drive them off, but only temporarily. They need to be treated like rats, but I don't know if Disney has the guts to deal with the publicity such action is sure to generate.

Very true, dlport. We may not like the birds, but I don't think many people go to city hall and complain about them to DL, they probably think it is just an inherent problem that Mother nature gives us. BUT, imagine what would happen in Disney starting doing things to drive them off. PETA and other organizations would start using their media contacts to publicize how evil Disney is for doing this to the poor harmless birds.

I wonder if Alka-Seltzer works as good on crows as it does on seagulls...not that I would ever condone that activity, but since segulls have no way to relieve internal pressure (aka burping), these little white tablets give them all sorts of problems. When in trouble,

HARMLESS birds Instidude? I've had more then my share of guests coming up to me expecting to do something about them. Even stupider, they complain to me after they feed them...

OK, I gave the general public too much credit, but thanks for the good laugh!

I read the article yesterday and my first thought when reading it was "miceage.com must be running out of creative things to write about".this article was pretty lame-O

MiceAge run out of things to write about? Never! They will always have something to write about, even if all of the things that they wanted came to be.
