I couldn't help but chuckle when I saw the attached photo on MouseInfo's information page on Disney's California Adventure. Particularily with all the debate going on about DCA regarding its attendance and cutbacks.
It obviously was taken on a gloomy day when few people were entering the new park (unless it was snapped before it had opened). Don't know why the "star" in the pavement is blocked off.
Now those that aren't all that crazy about DCA might think this is symbolic picture for it shows gloom and few customers.
Although there are other good photos of DCA's sections on the page, perhaps a more cheery and sunny photo with a crowd might be found to replace it.
Looking at the photo, I might suggest to Cythnia and Jay that they also could brighten up the entrance area by replacing the "star" or whatever it is, with a nicely landscaped large planter or series of planters bursting with colorful flowers. (Think DL's Mickey Mouse's welcoming floral below the train station). Maybe include the state's official flower, the golden poppy in the display.
Just a thought.

DCA's Entrance

The photo was probably taken close to DCA's opening, and the weather was kinda cloudy then, usually is in Feb/March. I agree there should be a newer, brighter pic taken, but a big crowd out front would block the CALIFORNIA letters, and I think that's the point of the photo, to show the entrance. The "star" in the center is not part of DCA, but rather the entrance plaza, or the area between DCA and DL. It's actually a terrazo "compass" with Mickey heads on each point. Surrounding it are bricks purchased by guests with their names on them. There actually is a huge CA poppy fountain located at the entrance of DTD.

Re: DCA's Entrance
Originally that compass star was supposed to be a fountain. I like the star better. It has some nice detail on it, if you were to walk on it. The possible threat of rain is the reason those yellow cones are there. The one bad thing about the compass is what when it rains it gets slippery sometimes.

DCA is a creative and marketing failure. It's so bad, it's good. That's the unofficial motto of DCA.
