Monsters, Inc - Mike & Sulley to the Rescue Grand Opening

Today marked the official opening ceremonies for Monsters Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue. MouseInfo was there to cover all the opening festivities and to speak with some of the special invited guests.

The Morning opened with a special ceremony-- a few lucky contest winners would be the first to ride the attraction. As the winners gathered in front of the facade, Disneyland Resort Ambassadors Becky Phelps and Andre Rivas took the stage to get things started.

They were soon joined by a "Stage Tech", who explained that there was a problem-- There was not enough power to start up the ride!

The tech explained that unless something could be done to provide power to the attraction, no one would be able to visit Monstropolis today. He had an idea-- Since monstropolis was powered by screams, perhaps if everyone screamed loudly, the attraction would come back to life.

Even though the assembled guests screamed as loud as they could, the attraction remained dark. Fortunately, Sulley came to everyone's rescue. Sulley told everyone that Monstropolis USED to be powered by screams, but now they get their energy from laughter, which is much more powerful. The audience laughed as loud as they could, and the special "power meter" quickly reached 100%. As lights came back on and the attraction's music started up, Sulley, the technician, and the ambassadors cheered and welcomed their guests onto Monster's Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!

Guests posed with Sulley and then entered the queue.

All the rest of the monsters were on hand to welcome their new guests.

Now it was time for the true opening event to begin. Arriving for the ceremony, Jay Rasulo of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts welcomes Pixar's Pete Docter, one of the directors of the movie Monsters, Inc.

We noticed some conspicuously placed air cannons just off stage before the ceremony began... can you tell what they've been loaded with?

Young children sat down on fuzzy sections of blue carpet before the opening ceremony began.

Resort Ambassador Becky Phelps returned to the stage on this windy morning to greet the media and invited guests.

Becky introduced Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Excecutive, Jay Rasulo.

Jay told the crowd how proud he was to be opening the new attraction at the Disneyland Resort.

Jay Rasulo thanks all his good friends at Pixar and Walt Disney Imagineering, including John Lasseter, who was unable to attend the ceremony this morning.

Jay asked everyone to give a special thanks to Pete Docter, one of the Directors of the movie Monsters, Inc,. as well as all the people who worked so hard on the movie and the attraction.

Becky returned to the stage to ask everyone to help her look for Boo. She looked behind the first door on the stage....

Boo was no where to be found-- Sulley was behind the first door. He told Becky that Boo's room could be found behind the second door.

When Sulley opened Boo's door, he found her room was empty! Where could she be? She must be loose in Monstropolis!

Suddenly, an alarm went off as all the monsters and some of the pixar pals came flying onto the stage looking for boo.

As the pixar pals ran around, they shot silly string all over the kids in the audience.

In the commotion, Sulley found boo hiding in her Monster Costume.

Sulley told the monsters that Boo was okay and that he had found her. But it turned out that everyone wasn't worried about her-- They had noticed the sock stuck to George's furry orange back!

George grudgingly turned around, and becky was nice enough to remove the offending sock from his back.

As Becky and Jay took center stage, they announced that Monstropolis was now ready for visitors. As they threw their socks in the air, hundreds of multi-colored socks flew out over the assembled crowd. Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue! is now open for business!
