March 10, 2011- Carsland and Mermaid Construction Progress, D23 2nd Anniversary Event

Nftysqrt took a leisurely trip to the Disneyland Resort yesterday to check out progress on Carsland, The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure, and D23's 2nd Anniversary Member Mixer.

The new Disney California Adventure Main Entrance is coming along.

Vertical construction is coming along, and you can start seeing some of the structure taking form.

    Another look at the construction.

New construction walls have popped up on the left side of the walkway now while entering Sunshine Plaza.

A look at the walls that are now like a maze leading you to the front entrance of the park.

The Disney Junior: Live On Stage Radio Tower is now in place. The show should open up later this month.

The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure attraction building is almost complete.

The details even on the roof are amazing.

Little seashell details really make the show building unique.

    Window details.

The archway on the building has been removed of it's scaffolding.

King Triton atop of the show building.

Light bulbs and seashells adorn the archway.

A look inside the arch with stained glass panels. This building will be beautiful at night!

A closer look at one of the bigger seashells.

Some remaining scaffolding left on the show building.

This area of the show building looks almost complete.

Love the shells on the corner of the building.

A closer look on the completed roof work, and what they have left.

Silly Symphony Swings have been closed since last week for a paint job.

Seems strange another paint job with the attraction opening less than a year ago.

Goofy's Sky School tower is coming along.

Construction is complete on Mickey's new Meet And Greet.

A look at the backside of the new gazebo.

Planters were placed in the area for some shade.

    Hello Captain Mickey!

    Hidden Mickey!

California Screamin' 101ed while I was walking over to Mickey's Fun Wheel.

    [break]

Seems like a new building or detail on the mountain range changes daily.

A closer look at Radiator Springs, the construction details are really showing now.

    Some progress on the farm.

    Cozy Cone taking shape!

    An overview of Carsland.

A look at the Carsland entrance from the Pacific Wharf.

Another look at the entrance from the Fun Wheel.

Lots and lots of construction happening in Radiator Springs.

    Overlook of the Farm.

A look at the not yet named park that used to be Maliboomer.

Some construction was also going on in the area. Wonder when they will start taking down the queue.

Silly Symphony Swings and an overview of the new restaurants.

Details are finally taking shape for the new Boardwalk Pizza and Paradise Garden Grill. Also look like Goofy's Sky School is completely done with it's new paint job.

Goofy's Sky School Tower is quickly being constructed.

Construction worker putting some details on the tower.

No longer Souvenir 66 but still has some remembrance of the store.

    Construction bric-a-brack!

Paradise Garden Grill has lots of going on's going on!

Boardwalk Pizza building construction looks almost complete. Now ready for it's details!

Closer look at Paradise Garden Grill and arch details.

Jumped over to Disneyland and decided to go see my favorite Mouse. I always love the details and color on her house.

    The Mrs. in her chair!

Goodbye Minnie! She is way to cute. Mickey is a lucky guy.

Later that evening I walked over to ESPN Zone to the D23 2nd Anniversary Member Mixer. They gave us a Birthday Button, Two World Of Color fastpasses in the Yellow Section, ten dollar voucher for a Game Card, and a Charter Year D23 pin.

Mingling with the guests of the party were Imagineers. Here Stacia Martin shows us the Minnie Mouse she drew me! Stacia is always kind and spends so much time talking with fans.

Josh Truchetta one of the Armchair Archivists was at the event as well.

I was not able to get a picture of Bob Gurr by himself since he was so popular, but he was gracious enough to take a picture with me!

John Tartaglia snapping a picture with me as well. Also at the event was our own Disney Geek Jeffrey Epstein, Steven Clark, Tim O' Day, Kevin Kidney, Jody Daily, and Bill Farmer. This was more of a casual event and I didn't get to snap a lot of photographs. But I must say this is one of the reasons I'm a D23 member, being able to mingle with what I consider Disney royalty without a line or time restraint.

    THE END!

AAAH!!!! I would've freaked out if I got to meet John Tartaglia!!! You're a lucky one, Ms. Nftysqrt!

PS does anyone else think the bright blue atop the Mermaid building doesn't fit with the rest of the color scheme? The rusted parts on top don't match well for me. I thought they were going to be aged but it doesn't look like they are.

It's like the little buildings on the water for WOC... too plasticy and monotone. Hmm...
