The apple is cool, last time I was there I had my daughter touch the apple and got a crowd, since I guess no one touches it. It did take my daughter (6) by surprise and it took a minute to calm her down. (It makes a witch related noise, but you have actually do it for the full effect)Originally Posted by bigglesworth003

Re: Things to do (that not everyone knows about?)
other than touching the apple, in the Indy queue pull on the pole that says do not touch, and if the queue is open in the well room, pull the rope (these are not commonly known, but many people do know)
another not so commonly known thing is riding in the caboose of the train- you might have to wait for a few trains to pass, but when you do find the one with the caboose, ask to sit in there! it's not the lilly belle, but it's still fun
always take a dime to the Mainstreet Train Station for the large music box (I think it's called a Sinfonian?)
get Disney Dollars from the Bank of Mainstreet
take the "Art of the Craft Tour" at the Grand Californian
find and ring the doorbell on Mainstreet (it's the only one and I'm not gonna spoil the surprise by telling you what happens)
find the sails docked at the Port of New Orleans
say hi to CMs on the Mark Twain and Sailing Ship Columbia during Fantasmic from the platform at the Frontierland River Packet
i can't think of anything else for now...

You can play checkers on Tom Sawyers Island and on Main St in the store to the left of Disneyana. Also above Snow White, the wicked queen looks out the window every so often.

the smaller pieces of the magic
I was hoping you kind people could tell me where to find the smaller pieces of the magic. The little things that are usually looked over. Like sounds of the monkey and the chanting psychic in the back of New Orleans square. Or the mural on the wall of Disney bank.
I am building a record of the small things, the little pieces of magic to make a family trip a little more special. We have two annual passers in the family and are LA locals. So we has been 'a few' times.
I just want a list of the little things that are easily overlooked while zooming around the park.
I want to clarify that I am looking for something different from the below post. (Things to do). Don’t want to upset the mod’s on my first post now.Last edited by joycelostgirl; 05-21-2004 at 08:34 PM. Reason: clarifying

This page at
http://www.thegoodgirls.com/small_memories.htm
has a lot of ideas (many of which have already been covered here) fitting into the "smaller pieces of the magic" theme.
Hope it helps.

Re: Things to do (that not everyone knows about?)
Thanks this helps a lot. I miss this stuff when I first read this thread. I guess I need to hit the refresh button I lot on this site.
I was looking less for thins to do, but thing that happen but most people overlook. Like things to see, and hear. Trying to purposely soak in the atmosphere a little more is closer. But all this things are cool too.

Re: Things to do (that not everyone knows about?)
I would say..if you haven't been to the DL hotel, go over and see the waterfalls...also, for adults, there is a really neat wine cellar where you can sample different wines (ask at the DL hotel restaurant where the wine cellar is and they will direct you). You can also drive little remote control boats in the lake there (I haven't done this in awhile...hope its still there!)
At the Grand Calif. Hotel, there is really fun storytelling in the evenings for kids (you don't have to be a hotel guest to take advantge of this.) While the kids are listening to stories, you grab an Irish Coffee and get a leather rocker next to the fireplace in the lobby and relax...its great.
Ride Casey Junior..an underrated ride..but don't get lured into sitting inside one of the cars that looks like a cage. It seems like it would be the best spot, but it really obstructs your view. Try for the rear facing seats in the caboose and right up front near the engine.
In Star Tours..ask for the back row. That's right, it's the best. You have the most unobstructed view of the screen because the last row is elevated higher than the others. This also means for most many adults and all kids, your legs dangle and don't touch the floor. The makes the motion of the ride MUCH better.
Go see Billy Hill and the Hillbillies at the Golden Horsehoe...this is just old fashioned knee-slapping fun...sit in the front couple of rows of tables on the floor level. The balcony looks cool, but you can't really see Billy's face and his expressions are priceless. You can eat lunch here and watch the show at the same time.
Stop in the Magic Shop on Main Street. Depending on who is behind the counter, you may get a terrific personal magic show and/or a display of card tricks.
When you exit Indy, there is a pay phone at the end of the exit queue...pick it up!!
In DCA, if you are getting really hot, walk around to the right and behind Grizzly underneath where the rafts go up the ramp...you'll get wet!!Mainoumi
