Smile El Capitan Theatre - Good Idea? Where to Sit, etc.

    Morning everyone!

So, we took some very good advice from Mouseinfo members and booked our room for our "once in a lifetime night in Hollywood" at the Roosevelt for our trip in early December. We arrive in LA (from Canada) at 2pm. I am trying to plan this one evening in Hollywood to make it really special. First question: Assuming "normal" wait time to get our luggage and pick up a taxi, what time should we expect to be at the Roosevelt? 4pm? Second question: we want to look at the "walk of fame" stars. Any tips about that? My 2 kids are 9yo girl and 16 yo boy. What other things should we do while in Hollywood for one evening? And my third question: I've just discovered the link & mouseinfo for the El Capitan theatre. I am thinking one thing we could consider doing "last thing" in the evening is go to a 8pm-ish movie and have a hot dog at the Soda Fountain store & check out the Disney studio etc. This sounds like a safe "after dark" activity? Anything else? I followed the link to "buy tickets" just to see how expensive the tickets are (ouch!) and I'm wondering, if you had ONE opportunity to go to a movie at this theatre, where would you sit? I see the VIP section means "no lines" - should I be worried about lines, etc. in early December? And finally: Some people have said not to stray too far away off the main drag - not to go on the side streets because of safety issues, but I DO want the kids to experience old Hollywood magic, at least until it gets dark All suggestions very appreciated...Thanks gang!

Well I've only been to Hollywood a few times, but we did once go to the El Capitan to see Haunted Mansion and we got VIP seats. I thought it was worth it. It was more, but as I remember (this may have changed) we got popcorn included in a cool plastic bucket (which I no longer have; alas).

Really, it's not a very big theatre, so I think anywhere you sit will be a good seat. VIP is probably unnecessary. I think we may have even chosen to go VIP because it was the only way to get 3 seats next to each other, at the time.

No idea where the Disney Studio is, but I had no idea it was anywhere near Hollywood.

As for "after dark" activities, I find Hollywood to be kinda scary at night, and I was traveling with about a dozen people and still thought that. You might want to keep your activities to daylight hours.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hi Jupiter: Thanks for your response, it was helpful! The "Studio" is actually called Disney's Soda Fountain and Studio Store and it appears to be another opportunity to spend money and its connected to the El Capitan. I think its about 2 blocks from our hotel, so even if its dark, we can run like he*l Seems like a good plan (I like to have SOME kind of plan) in case we can't figure out other safe things to do that evening. I can't wait to see the stars on the walk. Best to you! Kelli

It has a cool "floating" map as you scroll through the list that gives you idea where things are.
