Ok, these are all disney fans saying this.
The truth is that it is not the greatest hotel in the world. It's old, and needs rennovation. It is expensive.
The only thing really going for it is the location. You can get a nicer hotel for less money elsewhere, but the location trumps a lot of that.
It's a 2-3 (out of five) star hotel.

I'm with jonvn on this one.
The hotel is fine. They've renovated parts of it, including the guest rooms, in the past few years. There are some fun touches.
Since this is your husband's first trip, you just have to weigh which things your prefer. You can stay in a much, much nicer hotel than the Disneyland Hotel for $250 a night. So if your husband would appreciate that over, say, glow-in-the-dark wallpaper than perhaps it would be better to stay off property.
Again, the hotel isn't bad by any means. I'm just not sure it's worth the premium.

i LOVE disneyland and i have to say that the hotel was nice and cool with all the little touches but not really worth the money. i really did like the pool though. went back the next night and snuck in just to use the jacuzzi.
I'm a pretty pretty princess.

I think the responses have been pretty accurate, as mentioned is the "disney" experience worth $100 per night.
we cant afford to do it every time, but it was worth it when we did.
as for location, its actually further from the main gate than the Harbor hotels.
I will say the room was larger than a standard hotel and the way tyhe room was furnished did not seem old or funky at all. it was nice, just expensive.
Id love to try the GCH. maybe next time.
when we went the DL Hotel was only $20 or so more than the paradise pier hotel, and we felt based on location and the pool (that we did not use) it was worth the different. we had a 3 year old and didnt want to deal with crossing streets and what have you.
we were in NO way disapointed, even at the elevated price.DCA 1/2 the park, Same low price....

Unless you can afford it, I don't think it is worth spending the money to stay there every visit. However, I think it's worth it to stay there at least once.
