VICTORY THROUGH AIR POWER
"ANIMATION AT WAR"
Hosted by Jerry Beck!
Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 @ 8:00pm
A lecture & screening featuring rarely screened 35mm prints of World War II Animation from the Major Hollywood Studios.
Jerry Beck will introduce and offer a historical perspective to this representative collection of films.
The evening will include a 60th anniversary presentation of the Walt Disney feature VICTORY THROUGH AIR POWER, a film screened only once in Los Angeles since its original release on July 17, 1943. This part documentary-part animated cartoon is based on Alexander P. de Serversky's 1942 book. The resulting motion picture is powerful wartime propaganda, stating its case using spectacular effects animation, historical events, an Oscar nominated musical score and humorous cartooning.
This will, no doubt, be the last theatrical showing of this film.
The program will also feature 35mm studio vault prints of several war themed animated short subjects including BLITZ WOLF (MGM, Oscar Nominee 1942), RUSSIAN RHAPSODY (Warner Bros., 1943), SONG OF VICTORY (Columbia, 1943), REASON & EMOTION (Disney, Oscar Nominee 1943) and OUT OF THE FRYING PAN INTO THE FIRE (Disney, 1942).

Seems really interesting. I like the actual action war cartoons better than the propaganda stuff. Comando Daffy and the like are classics IMHO.
