What is going on with Disney Animation?

With news swirling around that the Orlando animation division of Disney might shut down,and many other cut backs in the animation units all over the globe in the last few years....what do you guys think is currently going on at Disney's animation dept?

do you guys think they are gearing up to get rid of producing animation all together and just distribute films ala Pixar etc?

are they downsizing to prepare for a "all-CGI" studio?

what are your thoughts on Disney animations future?

hmm.... well it would really suck if they got rid of the animation studios in Florida... i mean animation has been such an integral part of the history of the Walt Disney Co., it would be devestating to loose such an important piece. I can see how having the studios in Florida may not be that practical, seeing as how everything else is done out here in California, and with Pixar also being in CA it does seem to be a little wierd to have studios in Florida.

I guess the one bright spot (if there is one) they can expand the Studios theme park.
Not great news but it's something.

what are your thoughts on Disney animations future?

Well, it sadens me to see so many cuts at WDFA. Animation is my first and primary "Disney love". I don't see a complete abandonment of traditional animation, but I do see it going to the back burner for a while. Actually, when you think about it, traditional animation as of late has been infused with so much CGI, that it's become a kind of hybrid, and actually I think the worlds of traditional and CGI will merge even more in the future. I can totally see Disney putting a CGI animation department together as good or better than PIXAR. They just have to take risks with story and style. I mean, look at Dinosaur, it was beautiful! The story was OK, but visually, WOW! I KNOW they can do better than DW/SKG. Bottom line, if CGI is the most popular thing, I think they should go for it, and maybe afew years from now traditional animation will be back, but maybe done in a different way.
