And this is a good thing? Tuning into a radio station where people are using the F word left and right and getting very explicit about sex (like Stern)??Originally Posted by cinder

Where did I say this was a good thing?
Oh, and FYI, the reason I was so surprised to hear this was because I have never heard anything objectionable from that radio station. EVER.Last edited by cinder; 06-22-2004 at 11:13 AM.

It doesn't say much for our society, but shows like Sterns' wouldn't be on the air if there weren't people that enjoyed listening to them. I have the opportunity to avoid those stations, so I do, but, much like trying to ban a show (or coerce station or theater owners not to show it) does not give me the opportunity to use my voice to express displeasure with something.

Re: Now this is absurd...Ban Fahrenheit 9/11??
People like Stern have the right to have a show on the radio but they need to follow the common rules of our society like not cussing like a sailor on public radio etc...... A human being is capable of speaking without using the F word at every other word.

I agree, however, as our society becomes more accepting of the perpetual use of foul language, then what happens? I do not think that Stern is the cause of any degrading of our societal values, rather a reflection of what is happening in our culture.

They arn't changing the title after Ray Bradbury (Author of the novel Fahrenheit 451, in which the title of the movie is based on) requested so? I find it sad that Moore has to associate a spectacular novel with such opiniated trash.

Re: Now this is absurd...Ban Fahrenheit 9/11??
I heard on the radio there is a scene from 9/11 when the President first heard of the attacks. He was at that now famous school in Florida reading books to children. Anyway, i guess he had a blank stare on his face for seven minutes and it was caught on tape. I think that would be interesting for everyone to see, liberals and conservative folks. It shows what kind of pressure and extreme stress our President must have gone through.

Re: Now this is absurd...Ban Fahrenheit 9/11??
To the point of censorship, there is no way at all to make the airwaves "safe" for everyone listening. Every person has there limits as to what is decent and it should not be up to the government to decide what I can and cannot hear. You know who does? I do. I don't like something, I go elsewhere. I happen to think Stern's show is one of the funniest I've ever heard. It is brilliant. And I'm a big W. supporter. I think the most unpardonable sin a comedy show can make is not being funny. What, I'm going to think something's not funny because someone used a "bad" word? Give me a break. I'm an adult. Michael Powell and the FCC should start acting like adults too.
