Re: Now this is absurd...Ban Fahrenheit 9/11?? Clueless conservatives...

I was thinking about Michael Moore and the style of films that he makes. I'm sure there are a million more Moore's out there, making small independent films with the same messages.......how do you suppose Moore became THE messiah of films of this nature?

Ever consider (I'm just considering it now) that he will continue to make offensive (to some) movies of this nature, in order to keep his films on the big screen (and the money rolling in), even if he doesn't believe in his message? I mean, it helped him go from small theater houses to large chains....right?

Just as a potential example, not to go off topic (that much!), I have a simple case. When the Enron scandal was happening, CNN did a quick little segment during one of its newscasts. The segment said that perhaps the Bush administration should have looked into Enron more closely as many taxes evasions had been made and it was becoming more clear that something unusual was occuring within the company. Only days later, after the segment came out, an audit was ordered on CNN that cost millions of dollars. Now this case could be mere coincidence, and I truly hope it was, but if it wasn't, how horrible is it that a news channel, movie or even citizen can't express their guaranteed right of the freedom of their speech. If a movie company, such as Miramax, fears the backlash of government sentiments and therefore would not release the film, we have a true problem within our country. The government may not be directly and blatantly censoring the movie but through cause and effect, it just might be (but hopefully not!). All of this info is predicated among facts discussed during a recent political behavior debate. Any movie should be allowed out whether it is against our president or against Michael Moore. Everyone deserves for their opinions to be heard, its just really up to those who choose whether or not they want to listen. I don't know, its just something to think about...
I'd guess it was coincidence, but it does bring up a good point as to why Disney would not want to distribute the movie (even though they paid - indirectly- for it to be made). Why? because Disney relies on a lot of government regulation to support it's businesses, and also relies on a lack of government intervention on other issues to keep its business healthy. Anything that could tick off either political patrty, could have some impact on representatives, and their electorate, when rules are being made.

A couple easy examples... ABC wants lot of ad money for the campaign for President. If you make the GOP mad, maybe they'll do less advertising on ABC. Another example: international trade/oversees labor. We all know about this one.

Disney, being a large multi-national company, is a political machine unto itself, which exists on both internal politics, and the politics of the external world. They do have to play the games that exist, and that's not just in the US, but also around the world.

So you are saying that the people that listen to Moore are uneducated and ignorant? And that they cannot relate nor understand a person who speaks and writes eloquently with the proper use of the english language ?

Bush speaks fine. He is also eloquent at times. Mostly, he sounds like everyday normal people, not a pompous, conceited, self-absorbed french-like John Kerry.

Then again, I can't relate with the French.

Michael Moore is a boorish animal. Those who follow him can be accused of being unsophisticated, but that contradicts the high minded intellectuals who believe in the conspiracy theories that Moore promulgates. There's a true contradiction. I won't try to resolve it.

Nonetheless, the plain spoken Bush is pretty good in getting his message out. Maybe its because people like to listen to him.

You got all of that out of that one quote from me? Wow. No, I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that W. uses plain words when he speaks and people can relate to him. I don't think I was hiding any double meaning.
However, W. trips over a word and it's a freakin' scandal. Al Gore looks up at a statue bust and asks, "Now who is this?" and the person that was with him coughs and says under his breath "That's, uh, that's Thomas Jefferson, Mr. Vice President." Meanwhile, Clinton is watching this, turns and leaves the room. Saw a video of that 5-6 years ago. Never forgot it. And it wasn't even covered in the major papers.

I can beat that. I remember when Dole fell five feet from a platform during the 1996 Presidential race. He got up and shook it off.

Clinton, on the other hand, tripped on stepping stones and had to be raced to the hospital.

Who do YOU think got more media coverage?
