Re: "Phantom"...a series of unfortunate events

I saw Phantom 2 days ago. The problelm with the movie is ... the phantom. He just didn't fit the part. Minnie Driver was too over the top as Carlotta. They did a terrible job with the scene of the Phantom taking Christine to his lair for the first time - so cheesy that it reminded me of a bad bad music video, almost satirical. While I thought Emmy did an amazing singing job and was a believable Christine, she kept breathing hard every time she was in a scene with a male and would hang her mouth open and I thought it was a little pathetic. Otherwise the movie is very visually appealing and if you are a huge fan of Phantom of the Opera you will probably enjoy it and want to see it again after the first time.

Saw it today and loved it. The phantoms voice was ok, and I was a bit dissapointed with it. But otherwise pretty good movie, wait I guess, upon reading the first post in the thread I did look out for bad lip synching and did notice it but only once. I really enjoyed it though. Prefer the stage version, but the movie is pretty good.

I must say I enjoyed the movie and the stage production. The sets were wonderfull and the music is haunting (except for the stuff with synthesizers). I love that they put it to film, even if liberties are taken, because not everyone can go see the theater production. I love that i can take my whole family to see it for the price of just myself going to see the stage version. I do agree that the Phantom in this movie was horrible! his accent in the beginning numbers showed through, and almost ruined "music of the night", although it got much better as the film progressed (or I just got used to it). I did catch the whole "heaving bossum" thing with Emmy, she needed to get a grip. I also did not like how they changed the chandalier falling scene, what happened to "she's signing to bring down the chandalier!" stuff? Anyways, I will definately buy this film when released, and suggest everyone go see it, as it is a classic story and not to be missed on the big screen.

Emmy Rossum... wow... She is going to go far, no doubt there.

I took the moving of that scene as a way to accent the Phantom's rage/madness. After all, his acts do get more and more terrorfying as he gets more and more jelous.

I for one believed it was one heck of a movie. It deserves to be critiqued as a movie, not compared to the original fantastic play. It had something special to get itself recognized for 3 golden globes including Best Picture Comedy/Musical.
