A Bug's Life is a sleeper for me. Love that movie, but always forget it's a PIXAR film.

08-08-2005 06:21 PM #12Eh. The early word on Nemo (from Eisner himself) was that it wasn't very good. Toy Story 2 was, by Pixar's own admission, total crap before they basically scrapped it and started over. It's all part of the process.

Finally, I've seen a few articles attributing the low DVD sales of Incredibles to a change in buying habits of the average consumer. I can totally see that. We used to buy almost everything we wanted, but we're getting a little broke and burned out, and have started being a little more selective. Sounds like they still expect Incredibles to sell a boatload of DVDs, it'll just be spread out over time.Last edited by tservo; 08-08-2005 at 06:33 PM.

08-09-2005 10:42 AM #14I've stopped buying DVDs as much myself. Mostly because I'm waiting for HD DVDs, though. Aside from that, I've got a bunch of DVDs I never watch. Not a lot of point in having a DVD collection if you never look at them.I've seen a few articles attributing the low DVD sales of Incredibles to a change in buying habits of the average consumer.
I have either been renting films, or just waiting for them to show up on HBO (or one of those). You may contact me via jonvn@nadelberg.com.

08-09-2005 02:01 PM #15I'm the same way. I am also running out of space to even store them anyhow. I either wait for it on the pay channels(HBO etc..) or do Pay per View on my Dish PVR(which I can burn a DVD later anyway)

Jim Hill just had a new article about Cars, it doesn't sound like it's having too much trouble......

I'm alot more excited to see this movie knowing that Cheech Marin and George Carlin will be doing some voices......Last edited by _C_; 08-15-2005 at 01:07 AM.

I know one person in my family will LOVE cars. So, it'll likely be a film we even go to the theater to see.
You can't always go by online reports. Marcie says one thing, Jim the other. It depends on who they talk to, and everyone has some silly agenda. You may contact me via jonvn@nadelberg.com.

For not releasing a movie this summer, Pixar's announcement actually surprises me. I expected them to do far worse this year considering.

I just read the Jim Hill article.
It is interesting. Jobs' negotiating tactic has long been to always have a backup plan on the table, giving "take it or we walk" ultimatums to all their partners. They've been doing this for a long time.
And it sounds like they tried doing it to Disney. But what happened? Did they sign with anyone else? Nope. Perhaps what happened was that the movie business didn't work exactly like the computer business, and the demands he was making were of no interest to other studios.
So now he's cozying up to Disney again. I would think in a diminished capacity to negotiate, as well. By not signing with another company Pixar has a lot less leverage than it had before.
Looks like, anyway. You may contact me via jonvn@nadelberg.com.

Mort, the proft drop came from a movie they *did* release,The Incredibles. It wasnt the fact that they pushed Cars back, its the fact that Incredibles didnt do as well as Nemo in the box office or in DVD sales.
