Meg's role serves little to no purpose, and could easily be cut, along with Angel of Music, which IMNSHO, gets more tiresome as the song goes on.
I love Phantom. I actually like the graveyard scene...especially "Wandering Child." It's so creepy. They destroyed that sequence in the film with that ridiculous swordfight, but then again, they destroyed much of the show in the film.

I also hope they cut out some of the needless performance pieces (before Think of Me, the "Toad" scenes, and maybe parts of Don Juan).Refurb Mike

The performance pieces, especially the Toad/Don Juan sequences, are integral to the plot. All of them could be shortened, but not eliminated without leaving out important plot points.
Interesting news, according to Broadway gossip columnist Michael Riedel, not only will Harvey Fierstein star in Hairspray (for its first 12 weeks, starting Feb 06), but the new Phantom production (at a cost of $30 million) will have a new effect: the Phantom will ride the chandelier down to the stage.
Sweet.
Oh, and Jeff Calhoun, the amazing director of Big River & BKLYN, stated in an interview that an announcement for a Vegas run of BKLYN is imminent.
Let's see. That will leave us with:
Mamma Mia!
We Will Rock You
Avenue Q
Phantom (90 min)
Spamalot (90 min)
Hairspray (90 min)
BKLYN (all ready 90 min, boo yah)
The article also revealed that Wicked turned down an Avenue Q-like Vegas deal, thinking they could make more money on tour. And they surely do: between NYC, Chicago & the tour they pull in at least $3.6 million a week.Jaleel White does not approve.

Even though it's sad so many shows are getting cut like this, I think it's nice Las Vegas is starting to get quite a few good shows. There's finally going to be a place to go other than New York and occasionally Chicago to see Broadway shows.
And I have to see exactly what they cut from PotO before complaining...."Street Car coming back!"

and plus I'm sure all the 'big events' won't be cut from the performance, and even if it's 90 min. long, I can still afford a trip to LV more easily.

Not a fan of Phantom, not a fan of Vegas.
The two are perfect for each other.
