Joe and Multi-colored Coat of Wishes

Anyone just flat out love Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat?

My wife adores this musical, but I get a little freaked out by it, similar to Jesus Christ Superstar.

I will admit, I can never get the song Any Dream Will Do out of my head once I hear it.

Has anyone seen Joseph live? Am I missing out? Could this be anymore random?

I have a love/hate relationship with it. I've seen it produced several times, but only once was it a truly good production. It's easy to screw up I guess.

As long as they have a killer Narrator, most productions can get by fine.

I watched JC Superstar on TV once and the look of it had a real hippy vibe...and was a tad creepy. I guess I lump the two of them together.

And the chubby guy who played John the Baptist equals creepy, too.

It was directed by Norman Jewison, so it was a pretty big movie.

I haven't seen the show yet (Except Donny Osmand's video rendition). I love the music though.

How was Donny Osmond? Cheesy? Surprisingly good?

Joseph's last major production took place in the early 90s, you're correct. There's a new national tour going around that will hit SoCal early 2006, starring Patrick "I'm 60 Who Cast Me In This" Cassidy as Joseph and American Idol cast-off Amy Adams as the Narrator. I have not read kind reviews thus far.

The film version (direct to video) starred Osmond and was released about 5 years ago or so. It's fine, the problem is Maria Friedman (currently making her Broadway debut in Webber's The Woman In White) as the Narrator. She possesses no belt, no style and no talent. She singlehandedly murders what is otherwise a fine representation of Joseph's early 90s incarnation.
