    Disney DVDs

    Hey Folks

In looking at another site about DVD's there was an article about Lady and the Tramp. They mention that it will be a platinum edition.

What is the difference between Platinum, Masterpiece and Gold on the DVD labels.

    Thanks

Platinum Editions are DVDs of Disney's biggest hits. They get extensive amounts of bonus features, incredible digital restoration and remastering and very high profile releases. Thus far, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, Bambi, Cinderella and Lady and the Tramp have been released. This October The Little Mermaid will be released, and eventually 101 Dalmatians, Fantasia, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty and The Jungle Book are to be released as well.

The Masterpiece Collection was discontinued before the introduction of DVD. It was all of the Disney films. They were all masterpieces.

The Gold Classic Collection replaced the Masterpiece Collection when DVD came along. After Disney's first 9 DVD releases failed (the "Limited Issue" releases), the Gold Classic Collection released most of the films that weren't covered by the Platinum collection. Most have few bonus features and little by way of digital restoration.

    Hope that helps!

Disney has chosen BluRay, and is releasing 10 films on the new format this year. The only one on the list that is an animated feature is Dinosaur.

Disney will wrap up the Platinum Edition line before it starts the cycle all over again with BluRay, i.e. the next time Snow White is released (at the earliest 2008, 7 years after its last release) it will be BluRay and so on.

I also thought I heard the BluRay discs will be dual format, so they will contain standard DVD data too.

    or

Maybe the BluRay hardware will still read old DVD data? Not sure.

At any rate, I will be having 3 copies of Snow White at some point. (DVD, VHS, and Blueray). Sheesh!

From what I understand, HD-DVD and BluRay players will all be backwards compatible and will also play regular old DVDs.

I'm so thrilled there's going to be another format war. Did they learn nothing from Betamax/VHS? Sheesh is right.

And, since that is the best movie ever made, this makes perfect sense.

so is it smart to wait for the "BluRay" type films, instead of purchasing the Platinum Editions of "Bambi" and "Lady and the Tramp" since they're starting all over again?
    whats up!
