Don't want to spoil too much of the plot, but from what I understand he and Alice go on a mission through Wonderland together....

Pun was somewhat intended.
I just can't get over this. Is anyone REALLY, seriously actually looking forward to Depp just doing his same tired "eccentric British character" act and being a camera-hog for the WHOLE movie. Him being the spokesperson for Wonderland I can live with (Although I still stand by what I said earlier about the Chesire Cat being the true "face" of Wonderland) but him going EVERYWHERE with Alice just sounds nauseating. Sorry if I'm being pesamistic, I just don't see ANY originality in the footage we've seen of the Hatter just far. Maybe they're saving all the best stuff for the movie and we'll be blown away by the performance, but with Burton as director, I would be shocked for anything less than just a phoned in "eccentric/British" performance. Depp can do GREAT things (Fear and Loathing, Finding Neverland) but he's never really been at his best (And was at his absolute WORST, no question about in, the god awful Wonka remake) with Depp. Even in Edward Scissorhands I kind of found his performance a bit lifeless. All he really did was stare off into space and talk quietly. Maybe I'm just missing something though ES is one of those huge cult movies that I never really got into. The one time he accomplished something truly great with Burton was with Ed Wood, but that was really a personal project anyways.

I'm not sure i'm sold of this remake/retelling at all.. but Tiki maybe you've got to accept (along with a few others on this forum) that you're not a bastion of public opinion. I'm a good marketing research subject in that most of what i enjoy becomes mainstream enjoyable or "cult" worthy (cults make money). Some folks are just on the fringe though, and from what i've seen of some opinions on movies, fashion, etc.. on this forum, we distinctly have more fringe here at times.

What has me enthusiastic is that Burton is attempting to address the large issue that has existed in any adaptation- the novel's complete lack of a throughline.
There's not much of a plot to speak of, and in a film it's imperitive to have a clear throughline to keep the audience's attention. I love the characters of the Disney movie...but it's literally Alice wondering around in Wonderland meeting those characters...and, to me, that's boring. If only Karl Marx was a hippie.

I'm addicted to Disneyland. Disneyland hobbies are expensive. If I become a bum people are going to say "Don't give him money, he's just gonna use it on Disneyland."
