The Polar Express, Beowulf and a Christmas Carol are the triumverate of 3-D motion caputre films done by Robert Zemekis. He really thinks this is the next wave of filmmaking and hasn't directed a 'normal' live-action movie since Cast Away in 2000.
While I hate the technology's use so far, I must admit the people in Beowulf were infinitely more lifelike than those in Polar Express. Maybe another leap is taken with A Christmas Carol, and then another with Alice in Wonderland?

Oops, my bad. I guess then that this is the next best thing to see how the motion capture works:

Anne Hathaway was announced as the White Queen and in the most predictable casting yet, Helena Bonham Carter was announced as the Queen of Hearts.
Of topic, Johnny Depp is rumored to be getting $52 million for Pirates 4.

Hathaway is more surprising a casting to me than Queen of Hearts... I'm not shocked in the least that Helena is in the flick, as to that particular role, I don't see how it's unusual.

I'm addicted to Disneyland. Disneyland hobbies are expensive. If I become a bum people are going to say "Don't give him money, he's just gonna use it on Disneyland."

Anne Hathaway proved on SNL that she can pull off a believable British accent, so I'm not worried in the least. I'm actually glad she got cast in the film....it's nice to see her branching out more.

I think she will be perfect for the role. And Helena will be as well. She proves herself to be a terrific actress everytime.

No doubt. What I meant when I said the casting was PREdictable was that we all know Helena would be in the movie...and if you were to think of a role she'd play...that's it. I actually think there is some sort of stipulation in their wedding contract about Burton hiring her for every film he directs.

10-17-2008 12:29 AM #30I couldn't agree more about the disjointed nature of the plot. I rewatched the Disney version about a year ago, and couldn't believe how there really was no solid through-line and Alice seemed to just wander about Wonderland. Maybe that's just the screenwriting student in me, but I'm getting super stoked."It's a funny project. The story is obviously a classic with iconic images and ideas and thoughts. But with all the movie versions, well, I've just never seen one that really had any impact to me. It's always just a series of weird events. Every character is strange and she's just kind of wandering through all of the encounters as just a sort of observer.
The goal is to try to make it an engaging movie where you get some of the psychology and kind of bring a freshness but also keep the classic nature of 'Alice.' And, you know, getting to do it in 3-D fits the material quite well. So I'm excited about making it a new version but also have the elements that people expect when they think of the material."
