06-25-2009 07:14 PM #44The creditors that stepped in right before Neverland was being auctioned off all but forced him to tour again. They came at him with a deal- tour or lose Neverland. He chose tour. The stress, apparently, is what did him in.Do you truly believe he would have actually gone and done the shows? When they/he announced that rigorous tour, I felt we never would see it (and THIS is not what I was thinking by not ever seeing it). I just felt it was more of a publicity stunt again. And his wishes to do the Vegas show....wishes, bold statements, reality, alternate reality?

But he lost Neverland. They were selling bits and pieces of it, along with much of his memorabilia.

I could never quite believe the shows would happen either. Since his last tour in 1996 (I think) when I caught one of the History concerts here in Melbourne, he never seemed to be able to muster the energy for anything more than a few songs here and there and even those appearances became fewer and fewer. Things were always cancelled due to sickness or (if the lawsuits are to be believed) because he simply decided he didn't want to go through with the shows. I had come to believe that he was more or less spinning his wheels in the way you described without ever being able to face that his glory days may have been a decade or two ago, that things had changed, and that he was likely pushing himself into a situation in which he would physically be unable to ever recapture them.
He's someone that people of my age have certainly grown up with and someone whose music is still played all the time, whether on the radio or when you head out on a weekend, and they are all songs that everybody knows and still always get people up dancing. I think what makes the moment so sad is the immense talent and amazing career that just seemed to spiral into inevitable self-destruction, in the process tarnishing for many all the amazing music, videos and shows he'd created over the years.

I am just sad my heart hurts. I loved his music. I loved to watch him dance I love to watch him sing. He brought the video era to and open with Thriller and Billy Jean. As my friend said to me Micheal lived through his music. Money made him do great things but it also brought him down in a bad way. I will miss you Michael your music will live on forever.

His death is affecting me a lot more than I thought it would when I first heard the news today. It's one of those moments that I'll always remember where I was when I heard it (Challenger exploding, 9/11, things like that).

Judging from the Facebook status updates I'm reading, a lot of people are feeling that way!
I've always been a fan, but I was also kind of surprised how deflated (if that's the right word) I felt watching the coverage this morning (Australian time). It's particularly sad that he was never able to pull it all together, confound the critics and complete one last triumphant world tour.

An amazing video. And, in light of today's event, the very last scene kind of gave me chills.
