Not really any new footage in there but that's pretty funny. I actually like the marketing for this movie. It's nice to see them break away from the same old. The tangledtower.com is funny and smart.

I saw a really good extended clip earlier tonight on TV.

10-13-2010 07:42 AM #115Yes, our world has indeed become a world of motion. We have engineered marvels that take us swiftly over land and sea, through the air, and into space itself. And still bolder and better ideas are yet to come. Ideas that will fulfill our age old dream to be free. Free in mind. Free in spirit. Free to follow the distant star of our ancestors to a brighter tomorrow. - World of Motion (1982-1996)

This one?
It's what I think we all expected the promo to look like... I don't like it. I don't think that spot is going to get people into theaters. I much prefer the general vein of all their other marketing. It's modern, its relevant, it will work.Joey AKA "dlfreak"

The marketing is uniformly atrocious. I don't know what has happened to Disney, but it's like they WANT to fail. This is not a Shrek-y movie, despite marketing's best efforts to make you think it is. Disney may not have noticed, but Shrek 4 didn't quite live up to expectations this year...because the fractured fairy tale thing has been done to death.
Here we've got an honest to goodness Alan Menken fairy tale musical extravaganza, and every commercial has a pop/rock track and as many snarky lines as possible.
I'm convinced the studio needs a loss to offset the profits from TS3 and Alice, so they've put Tangled up against HP7.1 and are marketing it like they want people to avoid it. My guess? It'll work.Jaleel White does not approve.

I just saw the film tonight and it was a really great flick. Much too exhausted tonight for anything worthwhile but will have a review up soon! Until then, we have a few new stills to enjoy...

The problem is that marketing a "classic musical" doesn't work. Take a look and the wonderful-yet-under-performing Princess and the Frog. It was hyped as harkening back to the recent Disney musical classics, but somehow that didn't work.
They're trying a different approach with Tangled. Market to the Dreamworks/Shrek crowd but offer a Disney product that will get Disney "fans" in the door, along with word of mouth if the film is actually good.
Shrek's under-performance has nothing to do with people boring of the genre or the fading popularity of the fractured fairy tale type stories. It's just that people got sick of Shrek (did the first one really even warrant two sequels, let alone three?), and although I haven't seen the 4th, from what I've heard, it just wasn't that good.
