The concept sounds so horrible but I said the same for TS3 so we shall see!

Hope Pixar does their usual job with Cars2. I know Monsters 2 is going to be made. I wonder if there will be sequels for The Incredible?

    SYNOPSIS
Star racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship to exciting new places in “Cars 2” when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car. But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. Torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret spy mission, Mater’s action-packed journey leads him on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan and Europe, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world. Adding to the fast-paced fun is a colorful new all-car cast that includes secret agents, menacing villains and international racing competitors.

John Lasseter returns to the driver’s seat to direct this follow-up to his 2006 Golden Globe®-winning “Cars.” “Cars 2” is co-directed by Brad Lewis, producer of the Oscar®-winning film “Ratatouille,” and produced by visual effects industry veteran Denise Ream (associate producer, “Up”; visual effects executive producer, “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”). The film hits the track on June 24, 2011, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D in select theaters.

“CARS 2” JETS TO JAPAN – Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship to exciting new destinations when McQueen is tapped for the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car. First stop, Tokyo, Japan—where ancient tradition meets modern technology. But like a modern-day Samurai, Mater must play the part of a top-secret spy when he’s unknowingly embroiled in a case of international espionage. “Cars 2” hits the track on June 24, 2011, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D in select theaters.

“CARS 2” PASSPORT TO PARIS – There’s no place in the world like Radiator Springs, but Paris comes close! Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) venture abroad for the first-ever World Grand Prix. While McQueen focuses on the races, his best friend Mater hits a few detours. International espionage, anyone? On his top-secret mission, Mater takes the scenic route and manages to see the Parisian sights—including the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and the famous car-goyles of Notre Dame. “Cars 2” hits the track on June 24, 2011, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D in select theaters.

“CARS 2” GOES GLOBAL -- Star racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) heads overseas next summer to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the fastest car on the planet. McQueen and his best friend Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) make a pit stop in London, but there’s no time for tea when an international spy plot entangles Mater, and McQueen must race before royalty. “Cars 2” speeds past the world’s most iconic landmarks—including London’s Big Bentley—and into theaters on June 24, 2011, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D in select theaters.

“CARS 2” TO THE BIG SCREEN—AND BEYOND – It’s an international feast of epic proportions when star racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and lovable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) travel to Porto Corsa, Italy, for the first-ever World Grand Prix. The pair will have to bypass the Italian Riviera’s specialties—boating, beaches and pasta al pesto—as Mater is detoured on a top-secret spy mission and McQueen must race to win against the world’s best! “Cars 2” hits the track on June 24, 2011, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D in select theaters.

That's a lot of scenery for Pixar to create. I wonder if they copy/pasted from other movies:
The mountains from Monsters Inc, Paris from Ratatouille, etc.

The base of the Eiffel Tower looks like a hubcap and the top looks like a car's whatchamacallit. If they did reuse it looks like it will be with modification! They have admitted in the past though to re-using already done backgroundds/pieces in a different way.

Every animation studio reuses backgrounds, and even animation itself. Disney is super guilty of this, especially in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Since Cars is very stylized, it seems unlikely to me they'd be reusing backgrounds from any past films...other than Cars.

I think it sounds like a blast - I just hope we get to see more of our Radiator Springs friends. The characters are all so lovable. I doubted Pixar with TS3, and it was my favorite of theirs yet (Incredibles notwithstanding). Can't wait for Cars 2!

They might still use the wireframe and redo their own skins. Or they might just apply different lighting to it.

This isn't a critique of Disney's practices. I think it would be a nice tribute to other movies by using their material and copying it in. It would also save the artists a lot of time of having to re-create Paris.

I didn't see that until I looked at the larger pics. The bottom is like a wire wheel from a 32 hot rod and the top is a little like a hood ornament/radiator cap.
