We'll start the official discussion for Cars 2 with an image from Disney's 2009 Year in Review.

Plus we have a sneak into the plot by PixarPlanet.

Cars 2 is scheduled for release on June 24, 2011.

They're working on this AND Toy Story 3? Do they normally overlap so close?

^ If you mean "overlap" by one new movie a year, then this isn't anything new. This is generally how they space their movies out. It isn't until 2011 or 2012 that they start moving towards two movies a year.

I dunno. I may be wrong; I just don't remember them doing them so close to each other.

I wish they wouldn't do sequels.

Carsland had to have something to get the green light. Movie sequel release is the prefect seg.

I realize the importance for the Parks, but Pixar never wanted to do sequels, just original stories. Kind of disappointing.

I guess that kinda got thrown out once they were forced to to TS 2 and 3. And we have MI 2 coming eventually, too... that one confuses me, I liked it but didn't realize it was that powerful of a franchise. We can always hope that that movie would entail enhancements to DCA's MI attraction.

Which is odd becuase their third film was a sequel. Pixar never said they never wanted to do sequels. What they said was - and this was even back with regard to Toy Story 2 - that they didn't want to do a sequel unless they felt they still had a good story to tell.

It's only natural that Pixar should get larger and start cranking out films at a slighly higher rate. I don't think Pixar should be held to some higher standard that every Pixar film must be a one-off, brilliantly planned and executed masterpiece. There's something to be said for occasionally cashing in on a market. Those huge dollars flowing in is what will allow Pixar a degree of flexibility when pitching original ideas.
