Actually, the original 'Spy Kids' raked in a mighty $113 million dollars and the sequel brought in an impressive $86 million. With budgets of $60 and $68 million dollars respectively (including marketing costs), it makes sense to continue the 'Spy Kids' franchise.

3D on your home television is impossible without a neccessarry electronic 3D glasses they are like $150 for two pairs of glasses and a reciever like on most 3D DVD's there is a feature to turn the 3D off. If you haveany questions please post them

You got your red and blue 3-D glasses from Wendy's (I still have mine.)

If I'm not mistaken, the same year NBC tried something similar with a special episode of 'Third Rock From The Sun' where a dream sequence in the episode was in 3-D. Those glasses were, I think, clear (polarized then?)
I knew there were more recent times, but I couldn't think of them off the top of my head. I believe Drew Carey was also one of the shows that ABC had in 3D.

From what I remember they were all pretty bad and the 3D effect left you thinking "I guess that was sorta in 3D", which was much different than the reaction I had when I saw the 3D dinosaur movie on the IMAX or even the 3D movies at DLR or T2 at USH.

The problem is that you can't polarize the light coming from a tv screen like you can with the light being projected onto a cinema screen, so any attempts at 3D tv need to fool each eye into thinking it is seeing something different, and create the illusion of 3D. By using polarized glasses and projectors, a 3D film can actually show each eye a different image, which creates an effective 3D effect. Also, you can hand out glasses to every person as they enter the theater to ensure that everyone can see the 3D effects. When broadcasting a 3D show on tv, you have to make the show look good to someone who isn't watching in 3D, which limits what you can do with the attempted 3D technology.

About the money-making potential of the Spy Kids franchise. They are made for a (relatively) very low budget. The director, Robert Rodriguez, is an expert at making action movies on the cheap and both movies made hefty profits for Miramax/Disney. Even if Spy Kids 3D tanks (which it probably won't), the franchise has still been very successful.

Too true. The effect was extremely lackluster.
