Records Set As Thousands Run Through Disneyland Resort, City of Anaheim and Angel Stadium of Anaheim for "The Happiest Race on Earth"

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Sept. 5, 2010) — Paul Ngeny, 31, of Auburn, Calif., led a record field of more than 14,000 registered runners Sunday at the fifth annual Disneyland Half Marathon, crossing the finish line first with a time of 1:07:24, beating the fastest Disneyland Half Marathon time by 41 seconds.

“The course was very nice and comfortable,” Ngeny said. “I liked running through the parks and all the music. I could keep on going for a hundred miles.”

Finishing just behind Ngeny was Eric Marenburg, 27, of San Diego, Calif., with a time of 1:12:10. Kevin Broady, 48, of Brea, Calif., finished third with a time of 1:12:43.

Rachel Booth, 29, of Mountain View, Calif., claimed the title of 2010 women’s champion with a time of 1:15:19, beating the fastest women’s finisher time in the history of the Disneyland Half Marathon by 00:04:04. Booth, who performed better than she expected, finished just 18 seconds off of an Olympic trial qualifier time.

"It was great. Magical," Booth said. "It's in Disneyland and it's just a happy day. Always enjoyable. Everyone was so loud and cheering."

The women’s second-place finisher was Theresa Lowry, 36, of San Diego, Calif., with a time of 1:19:05. Susan Loken, 47, of Phoenix, AZ, took third place with a time of 1:19:13.

Other notable finishers of the 2010 Disneyland Half Marathon are Jon Megeff, 47, of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., who won the men’s Master’s Division (age 40+) with a time of 1:16:57, Merryt Jackman, 41, of San Diego, Calif., who topped the women’s Master’s Division (1:28:16) and Scott Parson, 51 of San Jose, Calif.,(00:56:45), and Sandi Rush, 49, of Oceanside, Calif., (1:17:06), winners of the men’s and women’s wheelchair divisions.

The fifth anniversary of “The Happiest Race on Earth” welcomed its largest registration field as more than 14,000 runners from every U.S. state and 16 countries made the magical 13.1 mile journey. The course traveled through the two Disneyland Resort theme parks – Disneyland and Disney California Adventure - and along Anaheim streets, passing landmarks such as the Honda Center and running on the field of Angel Stadium of Anaheim, while Disney characters and festive entertainment inspired runners along the way.

Participants who completed the half marathon received a special edition medal featuring Sleeping Beauty Castle circled by a vibrant number “5” and running Mickey Mouse. Nearly 570 Legacy runners – those who completed all five Disneyland Half Marathons – received a special medal lanyard.

The third annual Coast to Coast Race Challenge medal was presented to approximately 2,350 runners who completed the Walt Disney World Marathon or Half Marathon or Disney’s Princess Half Marathon this year at Walt Disney World Resort and then also completed Sunday’s Disneyland Half Marathon. The Coast to Coast medal showcases the iconic “Partners Statue” of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse.

The 2011 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend is scheduled for Sept. 2-4, 2011. Registration for next year’s Disneyland Half Marathon is scheduled to open Jan. 3, 2011.

During the 2010 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend, Disney announced that Jeff Galloway, one of America’s foremost marathon trainers, will be the official training consultant to Disney’s series of endurance events, which has been rebranded runDisney. The new runDisney brand also includes a new website, rundisney.com, which will provide runners with a wealth of running-related content, from Galloway training videos to endurance tips to complete runDisney event information. Additionally, newly-launched facebook.com/rundisney will provide opportunities for the endurance community to connect and interact with runDisney.

Before the sun rose this morning, the 5th Annual Disneyland Half Marathon had commenced. By the time many guests visiting Disneyland today were rolling out of bed, more than 12,000 people had completed the 13.1 mile journey that lead runners through both Disneyland Resort parks, Angel's Stadium, and the surrounding Anaheim area!

Top Honors went to Paul Ngeny of Auburn, CA for Men's and Rachel Booth of Mountain View, CA for Women's. Scott Parson and Sandi Rush came in first for Wheelchair. More than 14,000 people registered and an impressive 12,358 finished the race!

Jeff Galloway, the recently announced Official Consult for runDisney, was the master of ceremonies giving encouragement to the racers at the starting line. He was accompanied by the race ambassadors, Mickey and Minnie.

We finally tried the Tomorrowland Terrace new menu. All orders are now cooked to order meaning your food is not being prepared until you order.

This would be great if it didn't take us literally 15 minutes (I timed it) to get our food after we ordered it. Isn't counter service supposed to be FAST?




The food IS really tasty though. The grilled chicken sandwich above is a worthy successor to the crispy chicken sandwich (thanks in part to the guacamole) that it replaced. The Mahi Mahi wrap shown here is also quite delicious.

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is opening the Disney vault to be able to present these two films that broke the boundaries of imagination in the highest quality possible.

The Fantasia and Fantasia 2000: 2-Movie Collection Special Edition will be available in a 4-disc Blu-ray Combo Pack ($45.99 SRP) and a 2-Disc DVD ($39.99 SRP) for a very limited time only. The Blu-ray transformation of Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 will reveal the magic, music and majesty of both films as never before experienced, with stateof-the-art picture restoration of the original Fantasia and pristine 7.1 Digital Theater System Hi-Def Surround Sound. The Blu-ray combo pack is a tremendous value featuring, in addition to the two films in two different formats, a wealth of bonus features.

Among those Blu-ray special features is the highly requested Academy Award® nominated short Destino. Available for the first time ever on Blu-ray, the seven minute film is the result of a unique collaboration between Walt Disney and Salvador Dali begun in 1946, but put on hold due to studio financial concerns. In 2003, Roy E. Disney worked with a team of modern day animators to complete the film as a tribute to Walt’s pioneering artistic vision. Accompanying the highly anticipated short is an all-new feature length documentary entitled “Dali & Disney: A Date With Destino,” which explores the origins of the relationship between Disney and Dali, their collaboration on Destino, and ultimately how the film came to fruition so many years after its inception.

Fantasia, an unprecedented and magnificent feast of music and animated images, was initially released by the Studio in 1940 as a “road show” release. The following year, at the 14th Annual Academy Awards, Fantasia earned two Special Awards. The first was given to Walt Disney and associates for their outstanding contribution to the advancement of the use of sound in motion pictures, being the first commercial film released in multi-channel sound using a process called Fantasound, and the second to conductor Leopold Stokowski and his associates “for…unique achievement in the creation of a new form of visualized music…thereby widening the scope of the motion picture as entertainment and as an art form.”

Considered avant-garde during its time, Fantasia has gone on to become one of the most popular movies of all time and today is considered a classic. In 1990, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” Featuring the Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Stokowski, this groundbreaking film, which consists of animation set to eight musical pieces, is narrated by Deems Taylor and includes an appearance by Mickey Mouse (voiced by Disney himself).

Equally impressive is Fantasia 2000, the awe-inspiring extravaganza of sight and sound, executive produced by the late Roy E. Disney. Featuring an array of celebrity hosts including Steve Martin, Bette Midler, James Earl Jones, Penn and Teller, Angela Lansbury, Itzhak Perlman and Quincy Jones, the film, like its predecessor, expertly visualizes classical music compositions with various forms of animation and live-action introductions. Fantasia 2000 is primarily performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and conducted by James Levine.

Synopsis: The dreams and visions of Walt Disney come to life in Fantasia, which blends music and film magic into an exhilarating movie-going experience. Unforgettable images are brought to life by some of the world’s best music, and highlighted by the comedy of Mickey Mouse as a troublemaking sorcerer’s apprentice, along with the beauty of winged fairies and cascading snowflakes, the majesty of Noah’s ark and even plump hippos performing ballet in tutus.

Motivated by his uncle’s foresight, Roy Disney continued the magic with Fantasia 2000 which begins where its predecessor left off. There are seven completely new segments, and viewers watch a bustling Depression-era metropolis in the style of Al Hirschfeld’s famous cartoons, a flock of flamingos with slapstick yo-yo talents, an ark full of animals gathered by Donald Duck as Noah’s first mate, and musical life breathed into a family of flying humpback whales.

If you asked the cast of Flashforward what they would see in their future, it probably wouldn’t be the release of the complete series on DVD only a year after production. But sadly, today viewers can now purchase the complete series on a 5 disc DVD set of Flashforward.

I was somewhat interested after watching the pilot and decided to stick with the show throughout the first half of the season. After the midseason break of the show there were rumors that ABC wanted to cancel the show and when it was finally announced the show wouldn’t be returning, I was hoping they would tie up all the loose ends and not leave viewers wondering what the heck just happened?

The basic premise is that the world suddenly blacked out, mysteriously all at exactly the same time for the same amount of time. Agent Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes) finds himself personally invested to solve the perplexing mystery.

Some people are happy with the flashes, embracing the futures they saw while others do everything in their power to prevent the vision from coming real. Others still fear and worry about why they didn’t flash or see anything in the future. Did the lack of a vision predict death or some other tragic consequence?

The five disc DVD set includes every episode from the series as well as Bonus Features that are featured below.

Creating Catastrophe: The Effects of a Global Blackout focuses on the making of the pilot episode and how it shows the massive destruction of the blackout. David Goyer (excutive producer) talks about shutting down six lanes of traffic, including the 110 Freeway, to shoot the sequence of Mark and Demetri in a car crash when the blackout hits. This is also on the DVD release of the first episodes of the season.

Architects of Destiny: Interviews the cast on set the day it premiers on air. The cast discusses some of the plot lines from the series, as well as casting decisions that were made. Even though some of these interviews were shot after they knew the series was cancelled there is no mention of it and most of the cast still discuss the continuation of the series.

Flash Forward On Set: are a set of different locations that the series has filmed. One including a scene of the actual blackout and how everyone in that scene had to collapse at the very same time for the blackout. Each are around ten minutes long and take place at noticeable locations throughout the series.

Meet Yuko: is a brief look on the actress Yuko Takeuchi on her first American role on television. She is a huge star in Japan but never worked on an American series. She talks about her different experiences as well as working with translators and perfecting her English.

Kangaroo?: is a very short clip on the actors acknowledging the fact that there is a random Kangaroo throughout the episodes but they don’t give any explanation of why it’s even in the series.

Interviews from the Mosaic Site: are four clips from ABC.com that have people talking about their visions. It’s a nice addition to the Bonus Features that show how far the producers went to make the flashes and the blackout real.

There are also twelve deleted scenes that are included and “A Look Ahead” and “Could” are the previews ABC set up for the mid-season break the show had, highlighting what would happen in the second half of the series.

While I won’t tell you what actually happens at the end of the series, I was a bit disappointed on how they tied everything together. But then again I wasn’t surprised since it seems like most Science Fiction series have started edgy and fresh but fizzle towards the end, while writers are in a rush to tie everything together.

Flashforward: The Complete Series is a great addition for anyone that was a fan of the show. Halloween has creeped into World of Disney.




Noticed some of the medallions on the 50th bricks are having lost/stolen medallions replaced with non-metal ones.

Not sure if this is just a temporary fix until more medallions are made available or if this is a permanent fix. I bet they can't wait for the 10 year mark on these maintenance nightmares.

The Village Haus also closes on Monday for its shot at a kitchen remodel. Cafe Orleans was first this year, then Tomorrowland Terrace. This should help update the restaurant to more modern equipment. Expect the menu here to be similar to the Tomorrowland Terrace's new menu.

Hadn't been inside of Miss Chris' Cabin in a long time, last time I was there it was a sorry mess but they've gone in and layered in some more detail and it looks really great!

Also, who decided it would be smarter to use the HYPERION logo instead of the ALADDIN MUSICAL SPECTACULAR logo on that sign?

$1 BILLION FILMS IN ONE YEAR




BURBANK, Calif. – August 27, 2010 – Two weeks after becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time, Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story 3 will cross the $1 billion mark at the global box office today, joining Alice in Wonderland as the second $1 billion film this year from The Walt Disney Studios – the first studio in history to accomplish this feat. Disney first crossed the $1 billion threshold with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest in 2006. Toy Story 3 becomes the only animated film to reach this milestone and the seventh title in industry history.

“It’s been an incredible year as we saw the Pixar team bring Buzz and Woody back to the big screen and watched Tim Burton’s vision for Alice in Wonderland take the world by storm,” said Rich Ross, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “These box office triumphs prove that creative storytelling brought to life by imaginative, inspired and talented professionals is something audiences respond to the world over.”

As of Thursday (8/26/10), Toy Story 3 tallied more than $592.9 million internationally, Disney’s largest international animated release. Latin American audiences have contributed $138 million making Toy Story 3 the highest grossing Disney film ever released in the region. Toy Story 3 is the most successful UK release in Disney history and currently stands as the fourth biggest title in territory history with $102.4 million in box office receipts so far. In Japan, the film has taken in $111.2 million and spent five consecutive weeks as the #1 movie. Toy Story 3 currently ranks as the #7 film in global box office history and domestically ranks #9 with $404.6 million in receipts to date.

Alice in Wonderland began setting records during its opening weekend (March 5-7), becoming the biggest March opening in industry history, the highest 3D opening ever and The Walt Disney Studios’ biggest opening for a non-sequel film. Internationally, the film went on to tally more than $690 million, becoming Disney’s biggest overseas release of all time and the fourth biggest title ever released overseas. Worldwide, the film took in $1.0243 billion, ranking it as the #5 film in global box office history.

Weekend Events Expect to Bring in More Than
19,000 Athletes And Record Field for Half Marathon Sept. 5

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Aug. 23, 2010) — A record field of more than 14,000 registered participants will take to the streets of Disneyland Resort and the city of Anaheim for the fifth anniversary of “The Happiest Race on Earth” — the Disneyland Half Marathon. In addition to the 13.1-mile half marathon, the weekend features activities for the entire family, including a Health & Fitness Expo, Disneyland Fabulous 5K presented by the Los Angeles Times, and Kids' Races.

In true Disney fashion, the fifth anniversary of the race weekend will be celebrated in several ways. Athletes who complete the half marathon will be rewarded with a commemorative edition finisher medal featuring Sleeping Beauty Castle circled by a vibrant number “5” and running Mickey Mouse. Nearly 570 “Legacy Runners” — those who will be running in their fifth Disneyland half marathon — will also receive special recognition throughout the race weekend.

Participants from 16 countries and all 50 U.S. states are set to compete in weekend races. More than 14,000 are registered for the Half Marathon Sept. 5, and 5,000 are registered in the Family 5K and Kids' Races, Sept. 4. Participants and the general public can also visit the Disneyland Health and Fitness Expo at the Disneyland Hotel. The expo features the latest in official Disneyland Half Marathon merchandise and more than 90 vendors of fitness apparel, footwear, sunglasses, high tech gadgets and nutritional products.


The Disneyland Half Marathon features a course unlike any other in the world. Passing through the two Disneyland Resort theme parks — Disneyland and Disney California Adventure — and the streets of Anaheim, participants will experience a race full of inspiration that only Disney can provide, including live entertainers and Disney characters at the start line and along the route. The road race has become popular for its flat loop course and mild climate — ideal for personal best times. Hosted by the Disneyland Resort and the City of Anaheim, it reached registration capacity — for the fifth consecutive year - in late spring.

“We are so proud to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Disneyland Half Marathon,” said Disneyland Resort President George A. Kalogridis. “This unique event has become a tradition of fun and memories for thousands of athletes and their families. We share the success of this event with the city of Anaheim. Since 2006, we have jointly brought more than 80,000 participants from around the world to the Anaheim Resort Area.”

Throughout the race, runners will pass Disneyland icons such as Sleeping Beauty Castle and the Matterhorn, Anaheim landmarks such as the Anaheim Convention Center and Honda Center and will see themselves on the jumbo screen running on the field inside Angel Stadium of Anaheim, before finally crossing the finish line next to the Disneyland Hotel.



An estimated 2,350 runners are eligible to earn a special medal for the third annual Disney’s Coast to Coast Challenge Race. To be eligible, runners must have completed the Walt Disney World Marathon or Half Marathon or Disney’s Princess Half Marathon this year at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Fla., in addition to completing the 2010 Disneyland Half Marathon. The Coast to Coast medal showcases the iconic statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse (known as the Partners Statue).

The next Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend will take place Sept. 2–4, 2011. Registration is scheduled to open Jan. 3, 2011, for the 2011 Disneyland Half Marathon.
