My family and I are having serious DLR withdrawals and have started to think about booking a trip for later this year but are not sure when to go so I thought I'd turn to you for help!

Initially we were thinking of going in November to celebrate my Dad's birthday and since we've never seen the park decorated for Christmas. It would probably be somewhere between Nov 16th-23rd.

However with my work and rehearsal schedule it looks like November might not be the ideal time to go and my dad also has holidays in August so we were thinking about somewhere between August 11th-24th.

My main question is what would you suggest is the best time to go? The last 4 times I've been to DLR it has been in March during Spring Break season and though the crowds weren't horrendous we were getting a little tired of the amount of Spring Breakers that were there by the last couple days. We'd like to go at a time that's not too busy but figure November could be bad with American Thanksgiving and people wanting to see the Christmas stuff and August could be bad with the tail end of Summer vacation though I know many American schools go back in August.

Anyone have pro's or con's as to when a good time to go would be?? Price wise it seems November might be a bit cheaper but I just did a quick online search so it could be different on different days/weekends etc.

Also, we are hoping to use some airmiles for our flights and are thinking of splurging on a resort hotel to be closer to the action for my mom who has arthritis and a heart condition. Is the Grand Californian worth the splurge? We stayed at Paradise Pier in 2002 and enjoyed it but I remember it still being a bit of a walk to the parks and after walking around all day being nice and close would be good for my mom.
