Can we rate movies better than other movies?

So I my friends and I have argued countless times about movies. Most of my friends say there is no way to rate a movie better than another one because everyone has different tastes.

I gave the argument of Prince of Persia vs Toy Story 3, which some of my friends said they enjoyed Prince of Persia over Toy Story 3 and thats fine to say you like a movie over another but then I said but Toy Story 3 is still a better movie weather you like it more or not.

To that they all say no its based off opinions and there is no way to say one movie has better shots, story or characters than the other since they say its all based on taste.

I disagree and think that you can judge movies based on the basic, how good it was shot, the story, characters, acting and emotion, but what do you guys think? Can someone really say that they liked The Last Airbender better than Star Wars or the God father???
