2-Movie Collection Special Edition
On 4-Disc Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and 2-Disc DVD
November 30, 2010

BURBANK, Calif., September 2010 — Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 -- the magical, animated musical masterpiece and the contemporary classic inspired by it -- debut in highly anticipated Blu-ray High Definition and DVD 2-Movie Collection Special Editions on November 30. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is opening the Disney vault to be able to present these two films that broke the boundaries of imagination in the highest quality possible.

The Fantasia and Fantasia 2000: 2-Movie Collection Special Edition will be available in a 4-disc Blu-ray Combo Pack ($45.99 SRP) and a 2-Disc DVD ($39.99 SRP) for a very limited time only. The Blu-ray transformation of Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 will reveal the magic, music and majesty of both films as never before experienced, with stateof-the-art picture restoration of the original Fantasia and pristine 7.1 Digital Theater System Hi-Def Surround Sound. The Blu-ray combo pack is a tremendous value featuring, in addition to the two films in two different formats, a wealth of bonus features.

Among those Blu-ray special features is the highly requested Academy Award® nominated short Destino. Available for the first time ever on Blu-ray, the seven minute film is the result of a unique collaboration between Walt Disney and Salvador Dali begun in 1946, but put on hold due to studio financial concerns. In 2003, Roy E. Disney worked with a team of modern day animators to complete the film as a tribute to Walt’s pioneering artistic vision. Accompanying the highly anticipated short is an all-new feature length documentary entitled “Dali & Disney: A Date With Destino,” which explores the origins of the relationship between Disney and Dali, their collaboration on Destino, and ultimately how the film came to fruition so many years after its inception.

© Disney. All rights reserved

Fantasia, an unprecedented and magnificent feast of music and animated images, was initially released by the Studio in 1940 as a “road show” release. The following year, at the 14th Annual Academy Awards, Fantasia earned two Special Awards. The first was given to Walt Disney and associates for their outstanding contribution to the advancement of the use of sound in motion pictures, being the first commercial film released in multi-channel sound using a process called Fantasound, and the second to conductor Leopold Stokowski and his associates “for…unique achievement in the creation of a new form of visualized music…thereby widening the scope of the motion picture as entertainment and as an art form.”

Considered avant-garde during its time, Fantasia has gone on to become one of the most popular movies of all time and today is considered a classic. In 1990, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” Featuring the Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Stokowski, this groundbreaking film, which consists of animation set to eight musical pieces, is narrated by Deems Taylor and includes an appearance by Mickey Mouse (voiced by Disney himself).

Equally impressive is Fantasia 2000, the awe-inspiring extravaganza of sight and sound, executive produced by the late Roy E. Disney. Featuring an array of celebrity hosts including Steve Martin, Bette Midler, James Earl Jones, Penn and Teller, Angela Lansbury, Itzhak Perlman and Quincy Jones, the film, like its predecessor, expertly visualizes classical music compositions with various forms of animation and live-action introductions. Fantasia 2000 is primarily performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and conducted by James Levine.

Synopsis: The dreams and visions of Walt Disney come to life in Fantasia, which blends music and film magic into an exhilarating movie-going experience. Unforgettable images are brought to life by some of the world’s best music, and highlighted by the comedy of Mickey Mouse as a troublemaking sorcerer’s apprentice, along with the beauty of winged fairies and cascading snowflakes, the majesty of Noah’s ark and even plump hippos performing ballet in tutus.

Motivated by his uncle’s foresight, Roy Disney continued the magic with Fantasia 2000 which begins where its predecessor left off. There are seven completely new segments, and viewers watch a bustling Depression-era metropolis in the style of Al Hirschfeld’s famous cartoons, a flock of flamingos with slapstick yo-yo talents, an ark full of animals gathered by Donald Duck as Noah’s first mate, and musical life breathed into a family of flying humpback whales.

Fantasia DVD Bonus Features:

New Audio Commentary with Disney historian Brian Sibley

Disney Family Museum (running time: approx. 5 minutes) – Walt’s daughter Diane Disney-Miller takes viewers on a tour of the new Disney Family Museum in San Francisco, California featuring a very large exhibit on Fantasia and most importantly, the Schultheis notebook with long lost Fantasia production notes found in more recent years in the walls of a convent.

Fantasia Blu-ray Bonus Features:
Many of the special effects used in Fantasia were a mystery to modern day animators until this notebook was recovered.

Viewers are offered a look at the origins of pieces that were started by Walt, such as “The Emperor and the Nightingale” which was then taken over by a very young John Lasseter. Ultimately, Musicana was stopped to begin production on “Mickey’s Christmas Carol,” but the memories of this piece still live on with the animators who conceived it.

Flashback! A Look at Flashforward: The Complete Series on DVD

If you asked...

© Disney. All rights reserved.

If you asked the cast of Flashforward what they would see in their future, it probably wouldn’t be the release of the complete series on DVD only a year after production. But sadly, today viewers can now purchase the complete series on a 5 disc DVD set of Flashforward.

I was somewhat interested after watching the pilot and decided to stick with the show throughout the first half of the season. After the midseason break of the show there were rumors that ABC wanted to cancel the show and when it was finally announced the show wouldn’t be returning, I was hoping they would tie up all the loose ends and not leave viewers wondering what the heck just happened?

© Disney. All rights reserved.

The basic premise is that the world suddenly blacked out, mysteriously all at exactly the same time for the same amount of time. Agent Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes) finds himself personally invested to solve the perplexing mystery.

Some people are happy with the flashes, embracing the futures they saw while others do everything in their power to prevent the vision from coming real. Others still fear and worry about why they didn’t flash or see anything in the future. Did the lack of a vision predict death or some other tragic consequence?

The five disc DVD set includes every episode from the series as well as Bonus Features that are featured below.

© Disney. All rights reserved.

Creating Catastrophe: The Effects of a Global Blackout focuses on the making of the pilot episode and how it shows the massive destruction of the blackout. David Goyer (excutive producer) talks about shutting down six lanes of traffic, including the 110 Freeway, to shoot the sequence of Mark and Demetri in a car crash when the blackout hits. This is also on the DVD release of the first episodes of the season.

Architects of Destiny: Interviews the cast on set the day it premiers on air. The cast discusses some of the plot lines from the series, as well as casting decisions that were made. Even though some of these interviews were shot after they knew the series was cancelled there is no mention of it and most of the cast still discuss the continuation of the series.

Flash Forward On Set: are a set of different locations that the series has filmed. One including a scene of the actual blackout and how everyone in that scene had to collapse at the very same time for the blackout. Each are around ten minutes long and take place at noticeable locations throughout the series.

© Disney. All rights reserved.

Meet Yuko: is a brief look on the actress Yuko Takeuchi on her first American role on television. She is a huge star in Japan but never worked on an American series. She talks about her different experiences as well as working with translators and perfecting her English.

Kangaroo?: is a very short clip on the actors acknowledging the fact that there is a random Kangaroo throughout the episodes but they don’t give any explanation of why it’s even in the series.

Interviews from the Mosaic Site: are four clips from ABC.com that have people talking about their visions. It’s a nice addition to the Bonus Features that show how far the producers went to make the flashes and the blackout real.

There are also twelve deleted scenes that are included and “A Look Ahead” and “Could” are the previews ABC set up for the mid-season break the show had, highlighting what would happen in the second half of the series.

© Disney. All rights reserved.

While I won’t tell you what actually happens at the end of the series, I was a bit disappointed on how they tied everything together. But then again I wasn’t surprised since it seems like most Science Fiction series have started edgy and fresh but fizzle towards the end, while writers are in a rush to tie everything together.

Flashforward: The Complete Series is a great addition for anyone that was a fan of the show. And even though it might be a bit weaker compared to LOST it’s still a very innovative show and great for someone that enjoys that genre.

BURBANK, Calif. – August 27, 2010 – Two weeks after becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time, Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story 3 will cross the $1 billion mark at the global box office today, joining Alice in Wonderland as the second $1 billion film this year from The Walt Disney Studios – the first studio in history to accomplish this feat. Disney first crossed the $1 billion threshold with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest in 2006. Toy Story 3 becomes the only animated film to reach this milestone and the seventh title in industry history.

“It’s been an incredible year as we saw the Pixar team bring Buzz and Woody back to the big screen and watched Tim Burton’s vision for Alice in Wonderland take the world by storm,” said Rich Ross, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “These box office triumphs prove that creative storytelling brought to life by imaginative, inspired and talented professionals is something audiences respond to the world over.”

As of Thursday (8/26/10), Toy Story 3 tallied more than $592.9 million internationally, Disney’s largest international animated release. Latin American audiences have contributed $138 million making Toy Story 3 the highest grossing Disney film ever released in the region. Toy Story 3 is the most successful UK release in Disney history and currently stands as the fourth biggest title in territory history with $102.4 million in box office receipts so far. In Japan, the film has taken in $111.2 million and spent five consecutive weeks as the #1 movie. Toy Story 3 currently ranks as the #7 film in global box office history and domestically ranks #9 with $404.6 million in receipts to date.

Alice in Wonderland began setting records during its opening weekend (March 5-7), becoming the biggest March opening in industry history, the highest 3D opening ever and The Walt Disney Studios’ biggest opening for a non-sequel film. Internationally, the film went on to tally more than $690 million, becoming Disney’s biggest overseas release of all time and the fourth biggest title ever released overseas. Worldwide, the film took in $1.0243 billion, ranking it as the #5 film in global box office history.
© Disney. All rights reserved.

Cougar Town: The Complete First Season, is a sitcom revolving around Jules who, after 17 years of marriage is having a divorce. Being 40 something and single, Jules takes a metaphorical deep breath and throws herself into the dating pool against her better judgement, and soon finds herself drowning.

Jules now tries to juggle her ex husband (who seems to be aroud a LOT), her children, her friends (who absolutely loathe each other), and the attractive neighbor, who is also divorced. Can Jules handle all this without going totally insane?

Cougar Town: The Complete First Season is a very funny comedy, if you can get yourself through the first couple episodes. As with all new shows, the writers seem to have a hard time not only developing the characters but also keeping the situations the characters are in believable and interesting.

Later in the season, once the writing improves, the actors seem to grow into their characters and the show really blooms. It is a very funny comedy, even for this 20 year old male. However, I don't think that little Billy and Sally would enjoy it much.

The selection of Bonus Features includes:

Taming Cougar Town is a short, well done mini-documentary that takes you on a behind-the-scenes look at how the writers and producers too Cougar Town from the page to the tv screen.

There are 5 Deleted Scenes on 4 different episodes. Nothing that changes the plot of the show or even the episode, but still worth a watch.

Bloopers is a standard blooper reel. Nothing too fancy, but always worth tons of laughs.

Saber-Tooth Tiger Town (Jimmy Kimmel Live) is a hilarious short parody of the show staring Cloris Leachman. This parody shows a couple scenes about much older woman (i.e. in their 80s) dating much younger men. Definitely worth watching.

"My Sexualitay" Music Video is a music video put together sung by Grayson, Jules next door neighbor.

Ask Barb is a featurette showing Barb Coman, a character who is known for delivering a slightly dirty one liner answering "letters from her fans". Very dirty, and definitly "R" rated. this is a compilation of Barb's "video blog" on ABC.com.

Stroking It with Bobby Cobb feature Bobby, Jules' ex husband talking about golf. Featured as a set of instructional videos.

Cougar Town: The Complete First Series is a very funny sitcom, that appeals to many demographics. If you are a fan of the show, you will love having all the episodes at your disposal. One downside, though, is the lack of Bonus Features. Sure, it seems like there are some selections, but most a very short. In the end, though, this DVD is well produced and very funny. I say it is worth picking up.
“In 1995, the talented team at Pixar introduced a cowboy, a space ranger and their friends who have gone on to become some of the most beloved characters in the world. The success of Toy Story is due to the tremendously creative and innovative team at Pixar, led by John Lasseter and Ed Catmull, and our incredible marketing and distribution teams around the world,” said Rich Ross, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “In Toy Story 3, director Lee Unkrich, producer Darla Anderson and the incredible team at Pixar have given audiences a film that continued the rich storytelling and character building that have become synonymous with every Pixar release.”
Toy Story 3 continues to charm audiences around the world, tallying more than $518 million to date, and is expected become Disney’s largest international animated release this weekend. Latin American audiences have contributed $138 million making Toy Story 3 the highest ever grossing Disney film in the region. The film has ranked as the #1 film in the UK for four consecutive weeks and is the most successful release in company history with $90 million to date.
While Buzz, Woody and the gang delight audiences in theatres around the world, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has also announced that Toy Story 3 will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on November 2, 2010.

I had first heard about The Last Song when I was watching a tv special about Miley Cyrus. I had previously watched The Notebook so I was somewhat familiar with Nicholas Sparks novels and was interested in seeing his latest adaptation. Since I never made it out to the theater to see it, I was glad to find out I would be able to review it for its Blu-ray release on August 17th.

I have to admit, I was a bit worried on how I was actually going to like the film. I had heard mixed reviews and heard the part might have been too mature for Miley to handle. But I went in watching the movie with an open mind.

The Last Song is a story about Veronica Miller (Cyrus) moving to Tybee Island Georgia from New York City for the summer after her parents’ divorce. Ronnie is forced to deal with living in a small beach town, where the neighbors know everything.

She's also dealing with getting into Julliard but not wanting to play piano anymore because it’s the one thing that connects her with her father. The story takes some twists and turns—like her falling in love with Will (Liam Hemsworth)—who seems to be the resident player of the island.

This Blu-ray combo pack features the Blu-ray disc as well as a DVD version of the movie. The Bonus Features are slim for a new release but that seems to be normal for Disney release’s lately.

There is the usual Audio Commentary and Deleted Scenes. And then we get a few less common features like an Alternate Opening, Set Tour, and the making of the music video for "When I look at You."

The Alternate Opening shows a much longer and involved opening sequence of the church fire. The director, Julie Ann Robinson explains how as soon as she saw the completed sequence she knew it had to be cut from the film as it was just the wrong start of tone for the movie and to introduce Miley's character.

Set Tour with Bobby Coleman follows him around the set interviewing the actors, the makeup artist, and lighting team. The last of the Bonus Features are the music video for “When I look at You”, and also the making of the video.

Overall, I really enjoyed this movie, but thought it was a bit predictable in parts. I thought that Miley Cyrus handled her part well, but the story was a bit weak. I would recommend this movie for any Nicholas Sparks and Miley Cyrus fan but as a renowned crier, the film didn't hit me nearly as hard as I thought it would.
