OK I was liking the rating system just fine when I had 9 votes and 5 black stars. Yesterday someone must have not liked me and rated me and now I only have 4 black stars - GRRRRRRRR! LOLOriginally posted by Disneytom:

One suggestion on the ratings would be to take out the highest and lowest votes to avoid a rating being skewed by a single low vote. That way your rating cannot be negatively impacted by a single vengeful vote.
Another suggestion would be to reveal who voted and what the votes were, for the same reasons noted above. Also, if your rating is disabled, no voting on others, as there is no downside to hammering someone else's rating if yours is disabled.
I'm also thinking that it wouldn't be a bad idea to have only the site moderators do the voting, to inject some form of impartiality.
I also agree with the post above that people should be able to modify their votes.
Anyway, enough about the ratings. It's no big deal, but if we're going to have them, I'd prefer to have some checks and balances.
P.S. And yes, these thoughts arose after losing my fifth star. I've defended this site against some flamers and, shortly thereafter, saw my rating drop. Go figure. Now, losing my fifth is kind of a badge of honor. It's just a flesh wound.

Yes I agree with AgentLaRue, some form of checks and balances do need to be taken. For some reason, It seems like I might have made someone mad at be because someone voted for me and only gave me one star.
If this star system is taken as a rating of how well a persons views and opinions are received by others or the discussion board as a whole, A lower star rating might make a person think that their views are not welcome here by the other people.
Overall, I'm assuming that the star system is there to judge the other members' views and opinions.
I admit that when I signed on to the board this morning and saw a single star next to my name, It got me a little worried because afterall, I am new to this board and maybe I didn't make a good first impression?... But then I saw that it was only one member voting me and I still have to see what the rest of you have to say about me.
Just rambling on here.....
"And consider this dismaying observation: this chamber has no windows, and no doors. Which offers you this chilling challenge: to find a way out! Of course, there's always my way...."
