(April 18, 2010 -Hong Kong) Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is home to a million trees and shrubs. Today, a group of the visually impaired gathered at Inspiration Lake with their families to celebrate the launch of the Hong Kong‟s first Nature Walk Guidebook in Braille. Not only does the guidebook introduce the trees and butterflies which feature on the Resort‟s nature trails, it also describes the intimate relationship between humans, trees and butterflies.

“Walking in the grass, breathing fresh air and understanding more about trees is not just for the able bodied. Although we cannot see, we can feel the beauty of the nature here in our hearts,” said Ms Cheng Wai-king, who enjoyed the nature trail alongside Inspiration Lake with her husband.

“I can feel different types of trees by touching them. Each tree has its own unique features; some of them are smooth and some are rough. And from the Guidebook, I learnt that some of the trees have interesting purposes like the Cassia Bark Tree. When its bark is powdered, it can be used as a spice which is very similar to cinnamon.” The participants were fascinated when
they listened to some of the trees absorbing water from the soil, Cheng said it sounded like a human drinking water.

Mr. Andrew Kam, Managing Director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort said, “The launch of the first Braille Guidebook for Nature Walk at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort symbolizes a new milestone in the Resort‟s commitment to the community. The first 300 guidebooks will be presented to local organizations which serve the visually impaired. With over a million trees and
flat nature trails, the Resort is a perfect location for the visually impaired to enjoy nature.”

Joining the group was Mr. Edward Yau, Secretary for Environment, he said, “At the Resort, we can find one eighth of the butterfly species in Hong Kong and more than 80 types of trees and flowers. Therefore, if you pay close attention, you can enjoy a magical nature tour.”

Mr. Chong Chan Yau, Chairman of Hong Kong Blind Union also supported the event and said, "The community pursues harmony, selflessness and sharing joy with each other. Thisguidebook in Braille launched by Hong Kong Disneyland breaks down communication barriers and allows people of diverse backgrounds to appreciate the same wonderful world."

“With help from the nature tutors and the Braille guidebook, this adventure is a very special one,” said Ms Ho Suet-fun, President of HK Federation of the Blind, “I have read many information books in Braille, but the Nature Walk guidebook is certainly one of the most interesting.”

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is committed to supporting environmental protection. The Resort promotes „green‟ concepts to Guests every year on Earth Day – April 22. This year, activities were launched on April 17, including games and the sharing of „green‟ information. Free guided tours have been arranged in April for various NGO groups, encouraging them to get closer to
nature.
