Hmm, I can't wait till Utah's quarter is out, I could use a good laugh
Chances are it's either going to be a LDS temple or a bee hive, or both.

    Re: The California State Quarter

why were the options mostly northern themes, i think a good number of us Californians live closer south. personally i'd rather have a big wave(not like that weird ocean design) but the ocean is one thing that most of the region shares. I suppose that California is too diverse of a state, I say we get 2 Quarters
drop it like its hot, yeahh

I liked number 2 of the original designs. It was drawn really well, had both the Hollywood sign and the Golden Gate Bridge, as well as both palm trees and redwoods.

But I do like the one that was chosen. I'm surprised to hear that it's a composite of others. Usually the pick-and-choose method of design doesn’t work out too well…nor does design by committee, which is what was done here. Considering all that, it turned out better than expected…

John Muir is a great choice, and i am glad they chose him. His valuable writings from the expeditions in California and throughout the Country defined the term "conservationalist".

My great grandfather was part of his expedition to the Summit of Mt. Rainier in 1888. John Muir hired my great grandfather to take pictures of the trek. As it stands, my great grandfather was the first to take actual pictures on the Summit of Mt. Rainier. Considering cameras were physically huge back then, and they required heavy glass plate slides, John briefly wrote about him in the Mt. Rainier story called him crazy or something to that extent. It's kind of cool history anyway.

Wasn't John Muir the guy in Alien that had the thing pop out of his stomach?

Neat story Mort. I think it was an excellent choice, too.

    Re: The California State Quarter

I think the condor looks a bit out of place, but other than that I like it. If you look at the other state quarters the theme has definately been more natural. I remember there was a design with four different trees to represent the regions of California that I liked but it wasn't flashy enough.

BTW has anyone seen the state quarters segment on Late Night with Conan O'brien?
    Very Funny
