I have to get all four wisdom teeth pulled at once on Sept 23rd.Thank God I'm going to be asleep for the whole procedure.Three of them are impacted and the other one is halfway up.I guess they have to put stitches in after so I'm not thrilled about that.I have never had one cavity in my life so this whole ordeal is making me tense. On top of that I'm going to DL with my friends October 11-14th and I'm wondering if I'll be back to normal by then?

Re: Wisdom!
I was wondering about getting wisdom teeth pulled too (I'm gonna get 4 pulled in December). But I do know that my cousin had one wisdom tooth pulled, took painkillers for the first two days, and was back to eating solid food after a week and a half. The recovery time is probably longer than a week and a half for four teeth, but you should be fine after three weeks (you might still have a little discomfort).......

Re: Wisdom!
Well when I was 17 I think, I had all 4 pulled. I was under for the procedure. It hurt like hell, and of course, you have to have guaze in your mouth for the first couple days. My gums just kept on bleeding for a couple days, so each time I had to change the guaze, it was very disgusting. The pain didn't go away for about a week and a half, and I wasn't able to eat solid foods for a week. Not a fun experience at all.

I had all my wisdom's pulled out at the same time in the dentists office. I remember being sore for a few days afterwards, now having to get stitches im not sure how long you could be sore for, but im pretty sure you will be fine before you go to DL with your friends. Anyways good luck to you Christyaz!

Re: Wisdom!
It's pretty nasty, agreed. Recovery time also depends on how bad you swell up. I only had two of mine removed, but I am a huge sweller, so my recovery time was longer than my sister who had all four.
As for the gauze and blood thing, you pretty much end up drinking your own blood in your mouth for a little bit. The best way to go about it is to just give up your dignity during the recovery period and take it easy.

Re: Wisdom!
i think how fresh your breath will be is the least of your problems.
i had mine out june first this year, all four. the younger you do it the better. im only 19 but mine already had roots, which makes the procedure harder. so to those of you who should get them out... GET THEM OUT! cause once they start causing you pain, ive heard its horrible and you have to go on anti-biotics for a week before you get the procedure done. just more time and money. plus theres greater risk involved. my left side was much more impacted than my right, so that side hurt longer. and if they already have roots and are really bad, then theres a higher risk for permanent numbness of one side or both of your lower face. most people experience numbess for just the rest of the day or a couple, mine lasted just through that night. but believe me, i was worried about the permanent numbness thing because i play trumpet, thats what i do, thats what im in school for, but everything went fine,
many people react differently. some people swell up like a chipmunk, others (like me) have very minimal swelling. i hurt a LOT for a couple days, then i just hurt for a few days after that. its not fun at all, but its nothing to be uber worried about. just have ice packs ready to have on your face and thatll help too.
it took about a week before i could eat some-what normal food, but it still hurt for a couple weeks to eat anything hard or slightly crunchy.
i experienced pain in my front teeth at the end of the week, but so do many people. when the wisdom teeth are taken out, it relieves a lot of pressure that was pushing your front teeth together. so those front teeth start to loosen up a little creating sensitivity. it last a couple days, but it was rather annoying. i bought some orajel stuff and that helped a little.
all in all, it wont be fun. you will feel pain. you may or may not swell. you wont be able to open your mouth a hole lot. youll have to take small bites and use your tongue a lot, and no using a straw. i ended up getting tired of half-assing chewing my food, so i couldnt eat a whole lot at one time, so i was hungry all the freakin time. it just gets a little painful after a while because your jaw is tired of moving, soyou just gotta stop and wait like an hour and go for it again. broth of any sort is a good thing. good way to lose weight tho, but chances are once you can eat somewhat normal/solid food, youll gain it back, so dont look at it as a way to fit into that dress. your body will have been malnourished for a coupoe days so it grabs onto whatever it can get. so when your portions start getting bigger and more solid like, you do gain the weight back. not like more than what you weighed before but at leats half of what you lose. i lost 10 pounds in 5 days, but gained back 5 pounds in 3 days.
you probably wont be able to eat much at the beginning (altho i have heard from my friends that people they know were eating hamburgers the next day. so what i experienced, or your friends and family experienced will greatly differ. so never assume that because your mom or dad or sibling had a good or bad experience that youll have the same.)
i had real stitches, so a week and a half later i had to go and get them cut out, took only 10 minutes. and other Dr's use the plastic ones that dissolve or fall out.
just gotta be careful when youre eating. i like my irrigating syringe thing to squirt out the holes, that was fun. but you gotta brush, irrigate, and floss after every meal for several weeks. its not worth the chance of infection and having to go one MORE antibiotics.
