    Post Disney wont back Shrek

Alot of people are calling Disney petty and cowards for not backing the new Dreamworks movie, Shrek. Afraid that Shrek will do better than Disney.

    My opinion:
First of all, its not a Disney film, why should Disney do any promoting in the first place. Aside from it even being competition, its not their job. Let Dreamworks do that. Secondly, in the Shrek movie they make fun of Disney cartoons and Disney's long lines at the park. So after being insulted, why should they do them a favor?

I saw a preview of Shrek at the Dreamworks Animation Studio in Glendale last week. I was surprised at how good it was. The movie is really funny and the computer graphics were awesome! The story is extremely funny, the characters are fun and all around it's just a good movie.

As to Disney backing Shrek, how often does Dreamworks back Disney stuff?? Probably not very often considering the tense history Eisner and Katzenburg (sp?) have.

I also personally think that Shrek looks like it plays to an older or more adult audience as opposed to kids. (Maybe Yensid can shed some light on this?) I will see it before my kids do - from what I can see it has alot of "adult humor" especially with the voice talents of the likes of Eddie Murphy and John Lithgow as stars. I think of the differences between "A Bugs Life" and the movies "Ants" which both came out at the same time but were very different and Ants was definately not a kids movie. It may not be that suitable for children so why should Disney back it. Disney has it's own projects. While I realize not all of Disney's movies are for children the majority are family movies. These are two totally different and successful companies so I don't really see what all the fuss is about.

No, sorry, but I really HATE Dreamworks!!!
I refuse to watch animated movies from that studio, because of the Disney history (with Katzenberg etc.)

toominnie, you are going to crack up at this movie. There are a lot of theme park jokes when they get to the kingdom presided over by John Lithgows character. It's just funny. More so to those of us who love theme parks and will find even more humor in jokes that relate to queue lines and other theme park stuff. (I don't want to give it all away) It's to bad you won't go see it Disneytom, because it is hilarious movie. Does that mean you didn't see Gladiator?

In regards to your comment on it being more of an adult oriented movie, I think it will appeal to both kids and there parents. There are a lot of characters and humor kids will eat up. On the other hand, there is a lot of humor for the grown ups too. Nothing raunchy or anything like that, just more sophisticated and making fun of Fairy Tales kind of stuff. But . . . since I'm not sure what you do and don't let your kids see, you should see it for yourself if you are concern before taking them. I would guess you will see the movie . . . drive home . . . pick up your kids and take them right back to the theater with you for them to see it. Shrek is defiantly worth seeing more than once.

As far as Disney and Dreamworks not backing each other, no rival studio does unless they are co-producing movies/product together. And toominnie has a good and valid point . . . they are both successful studios and that's great. It's a benefit to all of us for Disney to have Dreamworks as "competition". It makes Disney continue to push their movies to be better and that in turn pushes Dreamworks to make their movies be better and so on and so on. It's a double A+ for all of us. They do all the work and we get to eat popcorn while watching the result of both studios efforts.
