Sorry for being so bitchy. This stuff hurts. And I'm not trying to "out hurt" someone. Sorry to hear about your back.

Ugh, Surgery. Yeah it's a major bummer. I've had surgery twice, and of one of the times had to live in the hospital for a month and a half after being mauled by a dog. Original before under-going my surgery I was supposed to just get sewn up and then leave, but crap happens, and I ended up having infections and what-have you.
So, doctors try their best, but somethings just happen beyond their control.

What did they do for you for your dog mauling? I've always heard you aren't supposed to sew up bites, but I'm guessing your instance was worse.

Well, that dog tore my legs up pretty bad. For my case they had to do reconstructing on my legs and do lots of physical therapy as I was temporarily paralyzed. I'm not sure about the whole not sewing, but it was just like, stitches on both my legs. TONS of stitches. But I've made a full recover physically and mentally aside from my battle wounds, but this was about 12 years ago.

My bad, stitch, I meant.
Maybe between then and now they realized that. The few bite wounds we've encountered, they wouldn't stitch, b/c bites heal from the inside out, and your chance of trapping and harvesting infection is astronomically high.
Yours were probably too horrendous NOT to. I'm glad you're ok and made a full recovery.MouseInfo Moderator

They did give me a lot of internal stitches that eventually disintegrate inside while they heal, so that may have been some of the aid. To be honest, there were some moments in the hospital in which I don't remember anything because of the drugs that were used to intentionally do that, but I got the stitches relatively later on in my stay.
You got some bites too? Ugh, where were they?

Neighbors bichon frise mix got after me like that dog in Something about Mary. Latched on to my hands (webbing between thumb and index finger) and munched up and down my arm.
Followed by my husband being attacked by your typical pound mix when he was trying to get OUR dog off the sister dog. Make sense? Atticus rushed and grabbed onto one of two dogs being walked. Husband tackled him and got him off. The other dog not being attacked in turn attacked my husband, putting a three inch gash under his arm pit and down his body, as well as various bites on his arms and legs.
People just don't realize how bad dog bites hurt and how very STRONG their grasps are.MouseInfo Moderator

Absolutely. Dogs are really complex creatures, and I find the more I know about them the better off 1) I am and 2) my dog is.
There is SOOOOOO much more to dogs than "look, he's wagging his tail, he must be happy". That is why so many (myself included) get hurt.
It really isn't the dog...it's the dog owner.MouseInfo Moderator

Well I totally blame the owners of the dog that attacked me. They abused it and gave it this anger and it just happened to latch it out on me.
