I just got laid off 3 hours ago. I've never been laid off in my 20 yr. professional history. It sucks. Still in shock.
I really need to get to DLR, stat!
Hope everyone has a better today than me!

Ouch, sorry. If it's any consolation, any place would probably hire you over me, a mere teenager.

Thanks everyone! I can't wait to see what new door opens for me. (I got laid off from a national consulting firm). We have SoCal passes, so we are visiting next week, now that is a nice surprise!

Being laid-off sucks. I've been laid-off twice now, and I'm just starting my professional career. I absolutely loath corporate life. Each day feels like Peter Gibbons to me. I don't think most people are meant to be trapped in cubicles, and yet we are.
I'm exploring different options in life right now. I meet with an Army recruiter tomorrow to explore my options there. The other thing on the table is mission work -- the Evangelical Lutheran Churches of America (of which my church is a member) have many different possibilities, and I'd like to do something good in this world -- their opportunities to teach English in Japan really intrigue me. The only corporation I have worked for and have any respect for is Land O'Lakes. Right now I work for a gigantic electronics retailer and HATE IT. BAH!
Better things are to come! While you're older than me, take some time to explore your options; corporate life may not be one of them."I like maxims that don't encourage behavior modification."

I've been laid off 3 times in my life. Each and every time it led to me getting a better job somewhere else.
So, look at it as a positive. But also look at looking for a job as being your new full time position.

I've been laid off twice. First in 2002 as part of the "tech wreck", then again in 2007 when the company I was working for bought a competator for their technology and cancelled all development on our new stuff.
It just sucks.... The 2007 one resulted in a better job. The 2002 job... well, it was the tech wreck. I can't lie. I took a 10% pay cut, moved almost 1000 miles from my kids, and ended up in a job that sucked.... but, on the bright side, the layoff of 2007 shook me out of that 2002-2007 job that sucked.
I have to say... If you had to get laid off, you sure picked a bad time for it.
And with that, back to work so I don't join you.
