I've had them done a few times. No big deal.

No, nothing I can think of. If the dentist does his job of numbing your face, there shouldn't be any issues. I think the worst part of the root canal was smelling the rotten tooth once they got through to the root...

Bring your headphones and just tune everything out. The dentist will get you numb, and then nothing else should bother/hurt you. Depending on the tooth, # of canals, it can be a longer, boring procedure as the patient as there are a number of steps to go through.
The horror stories of root canals are based on when there is a large rampant infection around the tooth, usually with a draining abscess. The pH of the infection neutralizes the anesthetic and the patient doesn't get numb very well or at all. This is a situation where the patient is already in excruciating pain due to the abscess and major swelling and treating this by starting a root canal can be painful in the short term if unable to be numb but necessary to get rid of the infection. These cases are very rare. You'll be fine, enjoy those Disney tunes. |
