Yes, the original Carousel of Progress music is the closing music. It brought a tear to my eye.

I agree completely. I know she was trying to do her job, but I feel like she detracted from the robot. Also, I thought the video phone messages with the family members were quite cheesy. ASIMO was awesome though.

What exactly is so awesome about ASIMO? I saw the show and the only practical things that he did to "help" anyone was check the weather and remind the host to order a pizza. Aren't these things that outlook and internet explorer can do for you? Do we really need a robot to teach us how to dance? Oh, and in a laughable moment in the show, the host implored the theater (which was full) to stand up and "DANCE WITH ASIMO!" Nobody stood up. I think the audience was very underwhelmed by the robot. It walks up and down stairs. Big deal. It kicks a soccer ball. Big deal. It can't carry anything and any output it presents is audible only, no visuals. Sounds like a really expensive waste of money to me.
    So there.

Well I think what is impressive (if you'll remember what ASIMO stands for) is the MOBILITY being demonstrated here. Is that something you've seen all the time? I mean you treat that as if it's no big deal. The rest-- as far as the script and the oh-so-perfect family and all, I see that as examples of how the technology might be applied in the future.

But the point is that this is a MOBILE robot that can walk up stairs, balance on one foot, etc, etc, etc. That's something new to me... I was impressed. The rest can come later, i'm just amazed at how far the techology is right now.

I know that neither of us could produce the results that Honda has, so I feel inclined to appreciate their efforts rather than trash-talk them for no real reason.

There is now a guy doing the show. I don't know if he replaced the girl but DarkBeer has pictures in his photo album.

Perhaps my view of technology today is more optimistic than yours, but a walking robot really doesn't impress me. Ben Franklin has been doing it at Epcot for 23 years.

But they did try to present this robot as some sort of practical machine. I saw no practical use for it. Inventing the car - that was practical. Finding clean sources of energy - that's practical. Creating a robot that can kick a soccer ball - not very practical.
    So there.

Dad is at home playing on the internet, while his crip wife is slaving away at work. How perfect is that?

You should look into military technology if you want to see advanced. This is bubkas.

If Cadillac made a robot, I'd be impressed.

That was just for show. I can assure you that Honda's original and core intent was to give the mobilely disadvantange (read that however you want) the ability to have/do things that they can't for whatever reason.

The commercial of ASIMO fetching the paper comes to mind. I can see a very old person who can't walk more than the distance from the bed to the bathroom and back without nearly collapsing. ASIMO can step in and get things like the mail and maybe even the groceries for the person when relatives are too busy to help.

I also remember hearing in the presentation clips that ASIMO would be used for construction and exploring in enviroments too dangerous for humans. Those Droids towards the end of Episode III come to mind. Got a highly radioactive material that could kill if not mutate the human scientist researching on it? Send in ASIMO.

Everything else shown at Disneyland is just the cutesy stuff to get you excited for the product. There are better uses for ASIMO. It's just for right now they are using it to get people excited for the future of technolgy.
