    Travel Channel

Today on the Travel Channel there was a show on about Disneyland and another about Disney Imagineering. It was a great behind the scences look at attractions and imagineers discussing various rides and their different building designs and show aspects. Some special effects along with a few secrets were shown.

    Did anyone else see it?

I've seen them all before. It looks like the travel channel is running all their Disney travel specials for the next few hours. Imagineers, Animal Kingdom,Cruise LIne, and WDW behind the scenes.

They even let us have a peek inside Club 33 and Walt's apartment on the DLR show.

Darn, I didn't see the Imagineering one, I thought there was only DLR.
For those who missed the general DLR one, there is a video of it posted on VisionsFantastic.com

Edit: Looks like Pinocchio85 beat me to it...

You snooze you loose. Just kidding

I think it's great that VF.com has posted these videos. Thank goodness they did because I missed the DL one like 3 times.

I caught part of the special and, while it was very cool, it was also sort of sad because I knew that I was watching a documentary about a division of the company which, for the most part, is in the process of being dismantled. They kept talking about the importance of "story" in their major attractions, and then kept showing shots of people riding "Pirates" and "Indy" juxtaposed with shots of the collection of carnival rides in Paradise Pier. I'm sorry, but I know that those rides where not "imagineered". They where buillt by outside companys, or bought off the shelf. I'm not trying to turn this into a "DCA sucks" thread. I'm maybe saying that, with DCA, they broke some of their own rules, and this Travel Channel show just brought the point home even further for me.

I kinda have to agree. None of the DCA rides really offend me much, and I think a good number of them are quite fun, but they aren't really what I think of when I think of "Disney," or, more importantly - "Disney Quality."

Even my *grandparents*, who are only interested in having fun (not in how things are made), still get excited when we start talking about Pirates or Haunted Mansion. There's nothing else like those rides in the world (except the other versions in the other parks), and DCA just doesn't have very much of that uniqueness.

Not to mention, yeah, there's not particularly a lot of themeing going on. When I'm on Screamin', what's the theme there? That I'm at a pier in Southern California? Well done, then, but very boring.
