Well i think it would all depend on the contract. Maybe Jobs would allow the sale of Pixar only if the contract specifies that the pixar team be left to decide the creative aspects of whatever movies are being worked on already. Since Pixar is already working on several movies they could be set for a few years before Disney animation has total control.
If steve does get a seat on the board as Chairman i am sure he would also protect his baby.
6.7 billion does sound like alot but i am sure Pixar has and will bring them in more profit than the purchased made by Eisner when he bought Fox family channel for 6+ billion dollars.
Disney stock could be hurt though and maybe stall even more from such a high purchase but the price tag of 6.7 billion is way less than wall street had speculated just a few weeks ago.
It would also give Disney full control of a very profitable set of characters of toy story, monsters, bugs life, incredibles and cars. It would mean a savings of quite a few million dollars that it would not have to pay steve everytime they decide to market them or use them for attractions and entertainment.
Steve jobs has been wanting full control of the characters and its sequals with the new agreement he has been proposing. That contract would not have been good for disney which is already using several of those characters in attractions and entertainment.

^exactly.
I think all this hysteria is a bit ridiculous. There is no evidence that they would ruin Pixar.Lets wait and see what the deal is,and see how Iger handles it first.

First off, I'm not reading hysteria. Second of all, it's in TALKS to acquire Pixar. As of now it's nothing.
So, we'll continue with our discussion.
Did Disney ruin ESPN? No, b/c prior to that Disney and ESPN weren't doing jack smack together. They weren't putting out collaborative efforts to the big screen.MouseInfo Moderator

The more articles I read, the more it appears to me that this would be Iger's way of hitting several birds with one stone:
1. The prestige of the world's leading animation studio? Once again would be Disney's.
2. The prospect of having Pixar be a competitor (5 to 10 years down the line) in an overcrowded marketplace. Wiped away.
3. Pixar Sequel rights? Retained by Disney.
4. Sequels? Created by (or at least overseen by) Pixar talent with all the money flowing back to Disney's coffers.
(And the big thing that plenty of people might not immediately see...)
5. The CEO of one of the fastest growing new media channels on the board.
Listen to all this talk of Iger's about the importance of digital media. Is he really talking about LOST on iTunes? He's thinking bigger. He's thinking about a worldwide network bigger than Comcast ever tried to promise.
He wants Apple/iTunes/iPod as an intertwined partner with ALL of Disney's content.
What better way to ensure healthy relations with Apple than to have it's CEO on the board?store! characters! downloads! eeeemail...

Is this the same Steve Jobs that runs Apple?

The latest articles out are talking about an all-stock transaction, which means that Pixar stock would become Disney stock, not a cash transaction. The terminoloigy being used now is a merger of the companies, and the merger would leave Jobs as one of the largest Disney shareholders, earning him a place on the board.
As a merger, it would allow Jobs to have a lot of influence, which tells me that Iger sees some real benfit from having someone like him on the board of directors for Disney.
We'll just have to see how this plays out. Both stocks were up significantly, and the idea of a merger seems to make Wall Street happier than a buy-out.When in trouble,

Just listen to the last 2 sentances it says it all.Disney will try to over rule them . The last 2 films Disney put out without Pixar were flops but every Disney/PIxar film were hits.Explain that.
