Hello MouseInfo friends! As some of you may remember I had the pleasure of taking a Disney Cruise last summer from Vancouver to Alaska... the trip inspired me so much that after much thinking I have decided to audition to become a performer on one of the ships!!
I've been following the audition calendar like a hawk all year for a contract starting in the summer or fall. As I teach musical theatre and voice I was already committed to teaching until June of this year...Anyway, I won't bore you with all the details but basically an audition has come up in New York for character performers aboard the Disney Wonder!! I was hoping for an audition on the west coast since I live outside of Vancouver and New York is quite the trek but nothing has come up so yesterday I booked a trip to NYC to audition!!
I've never been to New York before and I am super excited and super scared at the same time! The audition is June 5th and I just thought since this is a place to post about Disney things people might be interested in hearing about my journey! {hopefully at least a few of you are haha...}
Anyway, feel free to post any questions about the experience and if you happen to have any audition tips those would be gratefully received!!
I'll keep you posted as the journey unfolds!

Hello again everyone, got back yesterday from a whirl-wind trip from New York!! The city truly was amazing and it's true what they say about it never sleeping!! I ended up seeing Spiderman, Porgy and Bess and Sister Act three very different and very entertaining shows. I also went on a 5 hour bus tour which gave me a quick look at lots of different parts of New York.
As for the audition... well, it was fun but it didn't go as well as I had hoped.
I got there about 45 minutes before sign in as I really wanted to make sure I at least got seen. Met some nice people and discussed what we thought was going to happen etc. Next we all got in a line to sign in. We got a number {I was number 79} then we got measured {they measured me at 5'1 even though I thought I was 5'0} and then I went to another room to wait. They did the first group {numbers 1-50} then they came and got us. We learned what I thought was quite a simple dance routine and though dancing is not my strongest skill out of the singing, acting, dancing trifecta I felt like I did quite well. {I don't mean to sound cocky, trust me, I'd tell you if I thought I stunk haha!}
Anyway, after we learned the routine they broke us into 3 groups so we'd have some more room to dance. Then we were broken into groups of 5 people and we only had one chance to do the routine for the casting directors. I thought I did really well and was thinking I'd probably get asked to stay but... I was cut. I was pretty disappointed for the first couple of hours afterwards but I'm someone who likes to think that everything happens for a reason and there must be a good reason for me not getting this contract right away. I'm hoping for another audition to come up on the West Coast soon so I can try again!
Thanks everyone for the well wishes you gave me. I'll let you know how my journey unfolds!"I only hope that we don't lose sight of one thing - that it was all started by a mouse" - The Great Walt Disney
