Abe, there are well over a billion people in China. I think they can sustain 2 Disney resorts.

How many of them would come to the USA anyway? Not many. Not many at all.

four years to build -- seems longer than any of the other Disney parks.

I also hope it is not another Magic Kingdom. Disney could come up with great ideas for Disney style parks. I wonder if this will coincide with the third gate here.

Who knows. Even though China has the appearance of being an economic powerhouse, I think most of the people are still poor and would pick food over a vacation to a Disneyland Resort. Not sure of the percentage of poor people there, though.

Disney's not stupid there not going to build a park in a country where people couldn't afford it there going to find places where there is a market to sell the product which is the park.

I just don't like this idea...

Oh, and the main reason that China's poor population is big, is how they charge taxes...

The deal is, places like Seoul, South Korea desperately want a Disney park. Disney has five Magic Kingdoms in the world incl. Hong Kong, six including the Shanghai resort. To build more Magic Kingdoms in markets close to TDR, HKDL and Shanghai would be bad for business. So, Disney has decided to build non-MK parks in several places in the far future. This, IMO, is a good thing, because there will not be an MK on every corner, so to speak. It also gives each place its own unique park to be proud of. Whether it will be an Epcot or DisneySea-like concept, a Studios concept, or a Disney's South Korea Adventure has yet to be decided. I think it's a great way to bring the magic of Disney parks closer to several millions of people, but still leaving an incentive for them to travel to one of the Magic Kingdom resorts.

I don't know if you meant Disney buying existing regional parks and putting its name on them, and I am 99.9% certain that that is not going to happen. Disney is interested in building its own parks, not being Six Flags and buying pre-existing ones.

All that said, I find it hard to believe that no hotel is planned for Shanghai Disneyland. In fact, I find it impossible to believe. Ever since Eisner came on board, Disney builds resorts, not stand-alone parks without at least one hotel.
I am fine with it if they are going to design grand scale second gates as first gates and I think it is a good idea not to build anymore magic kingdoms, but when I heard about this I interpreted it as disney was saying that they were going to build smaller, non magic kingdom parks in asia. Key word smaller. I am very optomistic if they put a lot of time and imagination into these parks, treating them as if they were epcot or disneysea, but if they are planning to build small scale, cheap, regional in various countrys in asia and one in austrailia, I would be very upset.

Come on! So the decline has officially started I think, in 20 years every Disneyland will have an information board which says "did you know that every 30 seconds a Disneyland park opens somewhere in the world?"

Hopefully it will be a good park, with an exclusive castle and some great rides!!! But how do they think this will affect HKDL?!?!?!

This is BAD news for me
