Ugh, I really think they should work more on Hong Kong before going into this, if true.
And these two parks won't be that much farther away from each other.
I hope Hong Kong DL doesn't end up losing most of it's draw from mainland visitors.
That makes sense that they are aiming for more of the Chinese culture.
I didn't know this, but found through the comments of that article

Apparently Mulan was a miss with the Chinese market, so they are working to not make that mistake again with SDL.

Why is it that whenever I read a Jim Hill story I feel like I'm reading an Al Lutz story?
Probably the constant reminder that I read it there first or some such nonsense.

At first my initial thought was "I'll believe it when DISNEY says it," but then I saw this article:

Guess it is happening after all.

I thought this was a second gate at HKDL.

01-16-2009 01:01 PM #6Yes, our world has indeed become a world of motion. We have engineered marvels that take us swiftly over land and sea, through the air, and into space itself. And still bolder and better ideas are yet to come. Ideas that will fulfill our age old dream to be free. Free in mind. Free in spirit. Free to follow the distant star of our ancestors to a brighter tomorrow. - World of Motion (1982-1996)

I wouldn't think Disney would have much trouble doing two things at once. I have some faith that they won't be stupid enough to let HKDL languish while they build the new park.
As for HKDR's second gate, everything I've heard says that Disney has an option on the newly reclaimed land opposite the current park. This option expires in 2013, but it's never been clear to me if they just need to submit plans for the next park, or actually be building at that time to keep it. Disney doesn't want a competitor moving in next door, and if they lose that land, that's pretty much it, the resort is completely hemmed in.“We want to give people more than what they expect and if we do, they will always come back and they will enjoy coming to see what we're doing.” - Walt Disney

True, I agree.
But HKDL has a bad rep already, when I visited Ocean Park, the crowds showed the difference. Word of mouth favored Ocean Park.
And by this I'm talking about the tour guide I was with. When people asked her, she said that Ocean Park was much better. From the people on the tour bus with my family, majority chose to go to OP. My family went to both.
What I mean is that, with this brand new park on the mainland the public may brush off HKDL as being inferior and not worth visiting.
The distance between the two is not that far, I wouldn't want HK to get the end of the stick in visitors.

they just have to work hard with the tourism authority to change word of mouth
