That's exactly what I was thinking (and hoping)!
And as to Bob38disfan's comment about the Northridge quake in '94, I was here too but remember that quake hit at 4:17 AM. Of course people weren't out running around! But the sense of community and everyone pulling together to get through the crisis was indeed real. Thankfully, we see this everytime there is a great disaster and it seems to be human nature, not culturally-dependent. Of course some cultures are better able to handle major stress than others, both in their preparation (e.g. earthquake building codes, robust medical and response systems, high-tech devices, redundant power distribution systems, etc.) and in their inherent sense of "the greater good".
